That would depend on what airline you are travelling with. There are specific requirements for service animals in Canada and, unlike in the U.S., the service animal must be certified by a professional organziations as having been trained to assist a person. "Emotional support animals" typcially do not fall in that category...

I'd second the freighter-excursion. My wife and I looked into it a few years back as a bit of an adventure and it turns out, nearly ALL cargo/container ships offer cabins and will book passengers.

Back when we were looking into it, they generally ran around 100USD per person/per day. Not exactly a cheap way to travel with most trans-atlantic trips being 8-12 days depending on the ports.

I can't imagine that there wouldn't be at least one or two that would allow a dog... I mean, if you're prepared to drop that kind of coin, perhaps a freight forwarder could assist in booking a container for Spot, that would be loaded with access for you to attend to it during the voyage, if pet-access to your cabin is verboten.

I know when I was in the freight business, you could arrange for on-deck or otherwise favourable positioning of your can, for a fee of course....

If a container ship doesn't do it, surely there would be an option of a roll-on/roll-off (RORO)type vessel that could accommodate say a small van that housed Spot, while you stayed in a cabin?

Good luck!

thanks, will try that. so far those i've contacted said the dog will still have to be kept separately, which is not an option for us.
