Job advice for 1000hr+ flight instructor

Free advice, worth what you paid me for it:

1) It's not a waste of time to keep instructing until
you get that magical 1500 hrs and get your ATPL
signed off!

2) Start studying for and write your SARON and
SAMRA now!

3) Remember that total time is still total time, and
you are also building PIC hrs that others might not
have, down the road.

4) Can you get a multi-instructing gig? If you can,
that's fantastic - getting a few hundred hours of multi-PIC
is NOT a waste of time!

5) Keep plugging away. As stated above, it's all who
you know, and being in the right place at the right time.

6) Don't give up! Things are MUCH better now, than
they were in the not-so-distant past. Don't get discouraged
just because you're not experiencing a Cinderalla story
into the right seat of a turbine at 250TT. Those guys can't
get their ATPL until they have 2500 hrs!

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. I've met others in my boat and its clear that I'm not alone. I did have some good luck this month, and I did find a new job. Its still instructing, but it will give me some multi-time which can only help.

Good god, if a company with a varied fleet offers you a ramp job and says it will lead to the flight line go. Go now. Sure it would be nice to get a right seat straight away but take what you can when you can. You are nearing "too much instructing time". True or not that's the perception. Go take the ramp job and keep applying for flying jobs. And while on the ramp, work as hard as the 200 hour rampies and be one of the boys.

If a flying job comes up give good notice when you quit and when you have multi time they'll remember how hard you worked and maybe hire you to fly later. A good reference here will go a long way, so will the friends you make while being one of the boys.
