William Langewiesche is an excellent writer. He has written a lot of flying related articles, but his other writings are excellent too.

I am part way through Stick and Rudder and it is quite illuminating. It's kind of like that informal hangar-chat on flying that I never had.

I read the FTM as instructed by my instructor but reading through it again, now 40+ hours into my PPL - still informative, now that I can relate the previously purely mental ideas to my kinesthetic ideas gleaned from flying.

Stick and Rudder is a fantastic book. I'm a beginner but his descriptions and explanations have been really helpful in helping me gain and understanding of flight
