The best way to find out would be to apply, and see if you get a callback. (or PFO). Good luck, I applied there a couple years ago with mostly instructing time, and no job for me. But, the overall industry turnover seems to be greater now.
Good luck!

Keewatin is not a bad place to work. The pay isn't great and they do have bonds which makes it a stepping stone for many people. That being said the people there for the most part are great and the flying can be a lot of fun. The PC12 salary is higher because they have trouble finding people for it. The flying it does is the best in the company though IMO. Like any company they do have flaws but I think they do a lot of things right too.

hi j! glad to hear about the move!
keewatin is like any other 703-704 company in many ways, that being said
they are much better than most. if you want to move up quick its a great place to
start. most people are happy, lots of ac to choose from, from pc12-learjet
the pc12 is a great gig, you see amazing things and go places few ever see, and the nicest thing
about it is you fly a little less than the other ac types so you get lots of time to relax and fish in yfb for char!
the kingair can be very busy, especially in yrt. for building time its a good gig. in yyq (country club)
it flys a little less and its a cool place to be in the fall/summer.
the 1900 sched has changed since i flew it but i think things are busy
for them with charter work and you get to be home often in ywg
the lear flys alot! mostly yfb-yow but does occasionally go to yul, ywg, etc
the guys who fly it really enjoy it and have chosen to make it their career and
enjoy what they do. it can be a good career type job.
they do and have hired instructors and many have moved up really quick to a left seat
position.
yes theres a bond! it was not cash up front when i was there, but i dont know what has changed
management is very good with the crews and has done things like hire a pilot and wife
team on many occasions for the same rotation!
i spent almost three years there and i dont regret a thing, if i wasnt so happy in my new position
i wouldnt hesitate to return to keewatin!
great guys and great flying!
hope this helps

Anyone know how it is to start on the ramp there? How long of a wait would it be to start flying?

I flew the medevac contract with Borek before Keewatin took it over out of Iqaluit. My two years up there my T4's both were over $70,000. I have since gone on to better things.
Seeing what Keewatin is paying for the same job, ouch.
Good luck guys.

Hi,
I came across the above video on youtube. it is pretty informative with respect to the operation at Keewatin.
I am curious as to what is the best approach to getting an interview, would an in person visit in Winnipeg be the best approach? A phone call? Or simply sending in the application (rarely the best approach). I have specific reasons for wanting to work there and would like my application to be noticed. Any current or former Keewatin pilots with advice would be greatly appreciated, feel free to PM if you prefer.
cheers

Yes. Phone ahead and request a time to meet the chief pilot.

Thanks Cisbour, Spring hiring might work out well for me. I am a little short on time but should be hitting the mark by the spring.
cheers

Does anyone have any information in regards to starting on the ramp at Keewatin as a low-time pilot? Do they only hire applicants with 250hrs and IATRA, or can an applicant finish their flight training while on the ramp? What are the wait times like currently?
Thanks

They have a couple of flight coordinators right now who are finishing their licences. One Winnipeg rampy was just promoted to the flight line after about a year.
Sched is 2 weeks in/out. Flights are paid for to/from your home for the YFB guys, and to/from YWG for the YRT/YYQ guys. Jumpseat to YWG fron your home if you wish. You will max out. Each rotation you'll spend quite a few overnights in either YWG or YOW so it helps to break up the stints up north.
All of the 200's are getting G1000 upgrades at the rate of about one a month.

All of the 200's are getting G1000 upgrades at the rate of about one a month. First one leaves for its retrofit next week, so it's good to see them putting money back into the equipment.
Thats great I guess, the King Air avionics they must currently have seem easy to fly. Why not put it into the pilots salary instead?

It's all relative. FO salary is about $31K when you factor in per diems and stuff.

I'm guessing the major payback will be the dispatch reliability of the G1000 vs the steam gauges...
Edit: and per diems don't count... Are you living on snow cones and scavenged whale blubber while up north?? Don't fall for the "half the year" crap that is tossed around, do you think the average person working 8hrs a day m-f is working more than your 14hr a day for 2 weeks/month? Hint: they aren't.

There hiring dept must be slipping. They recently hired a guy who his first king air job was "volunteer".

If it is true, I hope that pilot name goes public!!
We should start a thread with pilots names that "volunteer" instead of working.

Names will never be allowed to be published. You just need to know which "employers" to look for on ones resume.

Perimeter medivac FO pay is roughly 40k + per diems so don't try defend the pay saying its on par... Also they are also going full glass with the fleet. Keewatin pay is garbage don't even get me started on rebonding guys when they go left seat

I cannot believe it, it really upsets me, I have met two pilots recently who were offered a right seat as "volunteers" and they refused. Because they need money to live and they respect the profession.
Pilots who have a union or a pilot panels should add in their agreements that the company cannot hire a pilot who worked for free.
And if you guys have a list of companies that promote "volunteer" flying I would love to have it in PM, so that I can update my colleagues and my CP of companies to BAN from hiring!

The pay from what I hear is a joke! Compare the flying these guys do to similar companies and pay. Perimeter medi capts 90K, and owned by same corporation! Perimeter flying 100 mile legs to thompson and back, then done! Keewatin is doing full duty days every day, massive distance assuming up to their YRT base everytime. The sked would be nice, depending on your life situation.
Come on, give these guys a raise. I wonder what turn over they are experiencing with that pay, run!
