My dad! November 15 2008, the day after my ppl check ride.
Out of Dorval aviation, while taxing on alpha I had leaned too much the engine shut off... He was scared before now he was terrified!
Before take off e goes: don't take off too fast!( same as don't drive too fast , thinking the plane needs to go slow on take off)
And then once airborne he didn't want me to bank the plane to turn, he said use your rudder instead!!!
It was way more stressful than the ppl check ride!

Re: First Passenger
My first passenger was my (long-suffering) wife. It probably would've been my Dad but he's in a different part of the world now. I think I'd have been scared to death if it had been him - ex-RAF fighter pilot (and the reason I fell in love with flying).Meatservo wrote:I got my license in Air Cadets. The first person to fly with me other than my instructor was another cadet, we rented a plane with our pay from the summer and blew it all on renting planes until it was all gone. But my first real passenger was my Dad. I think, in general, your first passenger should be your Dad.
I'd have been thinking about impressing him too much probably. Didn't feel like that with my wife though?!

My wife says she'd like to come with me again when we find someone to look after our daughter, so it can't have been THAT bad!

Re: First Passenger
My then girlfriend, now wife. Flew to Goderich for lunch at the restaurant off the threshold of 32 (been closed for the better part of a decade now, I think).
I only found out that my dad isn't really keen on flying after I got my ppl and offered to take him up.

I know time is ticking, it's tough now I have little kids.Tinker wrote:Beefatarian,,,,,,, Make the time,,, take your Dad back up before it's to late. I'd give anything to have that chance back again.
Worse though is, I'm only flying with instructors right now because too much of my brain might be missing and presumed dead right now.
He went lots back when I used to go on trips. Took him and my brother from YYC to Washington DCA back when you could still fly a private 172 in there.
I also took him and his mom (my grandma) to Killarny Manitoba. We found where his grandparents homesteaded there and just across the US border.
If I ever do pass arguably the second easiest transport Canada test, I will take him up again.
