Cat Driver, thanks for point out that when a single quits, we have no engine.
My comment was connected to this other comment.
Remember what happened with the last YVR operator that was regularly running the 'Van over the rocks?

There was a reference to the engine failure in a C208 on Vancouver Island where I believe three people were killed due to poor visibility and no safe landing area.

Honestly people, the bigger issue here than the single engine thing is fact the Van is a very efficient ice collector without the ability to climb high enough to get out of west coast icing conditions day in and day out. The guys that are flying that thing IMC in the winter over those mountains can fill their boots. I would never do it. there is so much moisture here in the winter. A company i flew for years ago instituted a policy of no IMC flight over mountainous terrain in the caravan for good reason.

The amazing part of all this is why anyone would willingly do the following.
Fly single engine airplanes in mountainous terrain in IMC and in icing.

Would you rather have a five point harness or a parachute when flying through a winter warm front rolling off the pacific up those mountains ?
Throw night flight into the mix and you might want a diaper as well, unless you are the strong silent type that does not scare easy

I'm not trying to say the Caravans a bad airplane, just a couple charts on C208 icing..... food for thought, draw your own conclusions.

Greetings from across the Northwest border..
Does TC still frown on the Honeywell conversion and IFR for the caravan? We operate out of ketchikan with a 950 conversion and it is a completely different airplane.

As far as I know IFR and the conversion still doesn't mix here.
