Sometimes they don't, as you yourself have pointed out in regards to the breather tube.Colonel Sanders wrote:Obviously the aircraft manufacturers know nothingit does seem odd that they (or at least Bombardier) seem to let you run their planes with bald tires

Me neither.I do not recall ever reading about tire limits with regard to hydroplaning
It's more to do with braking effectiveness in the wet, rather than hydroplaning (which isn't really affected by tread wear). It's CS who keeps bringing up the straw man of hydroplaning for some reason.Colonel Sanders wrote:Me neither.I do not recall ever reading about tire limits with regard to hydroplaning
I called a maintenance guy over during the walkaround recently due to what appeared to be a deep sharp cut in a tire. Was told that it was within limits even though cord had been cut. Apparantly was not cut below the groove level of the tread. Looked nasty though.flatface wrote:
On the heavy jets I worked on, the MIM had a section with 20 pages of tire inspection limits. There are so many possible tread wear patterns and damage patterns that there is no simple rule. This is just what I have observed over the years.

Assuming the AMM has specific data in this case. If not:Was told that it was within limits even though cord had been cut.

Caveat duly noted and not disputed.Colonel Sanders wrote:For local use only, on my aircraft
I can assure you that the owners of corporate flight departments do not like to see the cord on a tire installed on their Xmillion dollar equipment.Colonel Sanders wrote:I like to see cord

There it is!it simply looks bad
Do us all a small favour. After you swap out one of your 10 ply tiresa 10 ply tire isn't likely to fail because some cord is showing
