So easy to throw stones safely behind your computers.

How do you figure that calling out Gilles on untrue posts is "smearing"?

I cannot help but get a sense that you that those who are critical of his work are slime. I have followed the arguments and discussions. This thread seems more of a few disgruntled computer keyboarders attacking him for working for an airline in that has ties to the matter. What BS does he have to prove?, yes he works for AT but if he did so for AC, WJ etc the message would be the same.

Let's assume for a second that Gilles was in fact paid by AT to prove that a competing company was using unfair business practices to gain an advantage over the market. How is this any different from business hiring an antitrust lawyer for a similar purpose?

Bottom line, this argument is hugely irrelevant to the issues Gilles has been promoting.

The thing I admire about Gilles is he is willing to go by his real name.

How about those brave chest beaters on this thread stand up and give us your names? Are you scared, spineless computer hacks?

Thought so.

I wouldn't call Jazz illegitimate. Soon to be eviscerated, perhaps. Ironic that there will probably be a ton of former Jazz guys applying at the likes of Sunwing when the CPA expires. Who knows, maybe that will be the catalyst that changes their perspective when they realize they aren't "qualified" without an NG rating.
As for Gilles question "although you fail to explain how Air Transat has always hired pilots that do not speak French. Did these pilots find a way into fooling the recruiters that they spoke French ?", it seems to fly in the face of his earlier statement that bilingualism is a requirement. Could it be that on rare occasion where straight-in captains are required that there are times when they have to lower their strict requirements. Maybe he could let us know how it worked for the recent new-hires. Expect no specific response though, again.
Let me guess, unilingual but didn't get the gig with Transat?

The whole question of whether Gilles is "compensated" by Transat seems a bit odd considering it's not exactly a secret he works there...? Or is it extra suspicious if he makes extra compensation?

Either you agree with his argument or you don't - his perceived motivation has nothing to do with it. I think it's hilarious that anonymous posters think they have some right to demand personal information, and that not receiving it proves something (other than they are making asses of themselves).

Only the weak-minded attack the messenger over the message.

That would cover about 70% of the pilot population in Canada in terms of realistic opportunity. Fortunately we have the likes of Sunwing and Rouge whose future look bright.

Anyways, just wanted to know who was behind making this a big issue. It appears that it is an airline. Perhaps as I said, they are right on the issue. I just want to clarify that the earlier accusations were not false. We now have the answer.

Dh8Classic ... Please ...

You've already made yourself look like a complete douche .. don't compound it with comments like "bright futures at Sunwing and Rouge" .. I guess its a bright future if you don't mind your compensation level at 50% of the same aircraft, but without the "Rouge" painted on.

Soon we'll all have the same buying power as a burger flipper at McDonalds ... so bright!

Payscale is for a separate thread and on that specific subject, I agree with you. But when the AT option is zero pay because of no opportunity allowed, one has to look elsewhere.

Go Sunwing and Rouge and WJ.

localizer, how much do you think a sunwing FO makes? I heard your brothers over at Rouge were doing very well for themselves compared to mainline guys, with the GDO pay structure and all...

Monkey,

I hear lots of things, hard part is sifting fact from bullsh*t. I guess the question we need to ask ourselves is "what's a decent wage?". I can tell you my opinion, I don't think earning half the pay and lesser pension then a fellow union member is considered decent, but if your a new hire from the bush, we'll your opinion of decent is going to be completely different. I think we should except fairness, we should have a higher self value and a better sense of self respect so we can expect the management suite to return that respect. Why would anyone treat or give you anything more then what you believe your worth?

Cheers ..

Just for completeness, you should know that a lawyer representing a business would announce who he or she was representing: "I am the lawyer for Air Transat and I speak with AT's full authority and on its behalf."

Airlines (and other businesses) love to form lobbying/PR groups so that they are at least one step removed from the person voicing the opinions for which they pay.

Anyway - I'm not sure it makes any difference. Carry on.

Interesting story covered by CBC today.

It seems the minister responsible, Jason Kenney, won't tolerate any abuse of the TFW program.
Really???
What if you're a Canadian pilot instead of a McDonald's employee?

Good grief Jason :butthead:

Word on the street is that now that the Quebec election has gone in the proper direction, Jason Kenney will no longer put up with abuse of language requirements for hiring and AT will be open to the 70% of Canadian pilots that have been effectively barred from working there.

Go Sunwing.

I personally know 4 pilots at AT who couldn't speak a lick of French to save their lives, I have heard this was a past hiring prerequisite, times change.

I would assume that it falls under this statement I made earlier.

As for Gilles statement " you fail to explain how Air Transat has always hired pilots that do not speak French. Did these pilots find a way into fooling the recruiters that they spoke French ?", this seems to fly in the face of his earlier statement that bilingualism is a requirement. Could it be that on rare occasion where straight-in captains are required that there are times when they have to lower their strict requirements. Maybe he could let us know how it worked for the recent new-hires.

However, if this policy never existed or has changed, and can be proven on here, I will be the first to admit it.

FL320,
I am not sure where you work, but I can tell you that SWG is 100% compliant with federal laws and any labour relations document is readily available in both official languages at any SWG office/crew room at any base across our country.
Also, not sure where your statistics are coming from, but there are a lot of guys here who are based outside of QC and speak french. There are waaaaay more then 10% of us who can speak more then one language too.
Maybe it is time you check your sources as well.

I think the answer to the OP Is somewhere in the middle of page 3 where he says that "[he ]was put in charge of the foreign pilot file by my union".
http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopi ... 7&start=50

Which union ? Why a union would be concerned by such an issue and decide to develop so many efforts for something that has nothing to do with their primary mandate ?
Just askin'.

thanks for clarifying, the "Foreign Pilots Committee" would have gained more leverage in credibility, and gain in energy and efficiency right from the beginning by mentioning the root organization and not just 2 years after beginning the process.

Any normal person capable of intelligent and free thought, has the capability to examine information presented, whatever the source, and upon further investigation and deliberation determine for themselves if the information is valid. And then intelligently choose whether they would like to support the cause and improve the situation; stay silent and do nothing; or engage in a mature discussion and debate over facts.

Sheep require someone they trust to tell them what to do or what to believe.

If you don't think the information Gilles has uncovered is valid, do the research and see for yourself.

Cheers,
Kirsten B.
