Hey everyone..
got 2 questions that I am not too sure about

1) does the NTS system fully feather the prop in case of an engine failure or does it just set the prop to a setting for low drag
2) What is a EPA fuel purge kit? why is it installed and whats its use?

thanx..

1. The NTS system is not an auto feather. It reduces drag in response to a sensed negative torque, but does not actually feather the prop. If it did it would not be possible to restart a shutdown engine in the air.

2. The EPA kit is mandated by the environmental protection agency. It forces the last bit of fuel in the lines through the engine to reduce smoke at shutdown. Some PT6s have a similar system, while others have a collection "can" that excess fuel drains into. You will recognize the EPA kit working as the engine momentarily spools up during shutdown.

I am sure that you will have more questions that your knowledgable training captain will be able to help you with!

Good luck and keep studying!!

As stated above the NTS is not an auto feather.

It uses a sensor that detects negative torque on the engine. Depending one what type of garrett you have its done a couple of different ways.

What the system does basically is that if a negative torque situation is recognized it moves the prop to an angle at which there is no more negative torque. Once it gets there it starts moving back though so when the system is working it is constantly moving the prop angle and still causing drag. It does however greatly reduce it making a failed engine more manageable.

thanx.. :)
well I figured I could try and cover as much as I could on my own and focus on the finer details with the captain :)
