When I originally thought C6 was finished: somewhat applies to the majority who worked for or did work for C6.

Did anybody catch the article in today's Chronicle-Herald? I heard about it but I couldn't get anything specific. I'm on the road right now so I can't just pop out to the corner store and pick one up. Apparently, KR was letting the press know what he's up to regarding CanJet 2.5.
Can anyone fill me in on the details? PM me or just post it on the site.
Cheers

Thanks, looks like more of the same. It amazes me how the spin doctors can get so much mileage out of re-hashing the same stuff. Must have been a slow news day.

"With an airline, as the CEO, I’m legally responsible, . . . so my first concern with what we do and how we do it is the safety of those aircraft and all aboard them," he said.
There's a load of crap if I've ever heard one. Not that C6 was ever unsafe, but the fact KR is declaring that he terminated Sked ops for safety reasons, come on.

I wonder...did K get visited by three ghosts on Christmas eve? Did he wake up with a heart and a conscience? Did Cratchit get the prized turkey hanging at the butchers? Nah...I bet he got his eye on Tiny Tims crutch. He probably figures he can burn it and heat his office with it.

Still here. Just watching things unfold. Canjet is on target to run out of pilots by March.

I think the fact that this thread is almost dead is proof that pretty much everyone has given up on CJ. Their thoughts are on other places and other commitments. I've heard about 4 captains to go in the next week or so. They are also up to about #70 on the list with about only 10 left out of the 110.
This is like watching a train wreck and I can't look away.

Where are the Captains rumoured to be going? I heard 3 or 4 captains were to India to screen for the NG's for Spice-Jet and JetAirways. Any truth to that?

From what I can gather there are only a handful that don't have other jobs or interviews lined up! I agree, in March it will turn ugly fast.

Management already acknowledges the fact that initials will have to be done in March. IMP is still under the mentality that if someone leaves you can simply hire somebody else to replace them.
This is going to be worse than the -500 tranisition, 9 days off and lots and lots of OT.

What makes you think Canjet will have problem finding pilots? People have short memories, and that applies to pilots as well (especially those young enough to not know much history in this industry).

EH Canada, those young enough not to remember what the industry has done in the past sure as hell aren't going to be qualified to fly as skipper on the 37

Canjet will not have any trouble finding pilots. They will come, sign a training bond, andwhy not!!! It's a good gamble. Sign what ever they want you to sign. Chances are you'll be let off the hook when they pull the plug once again.
That isnt the problem. The problem is lack of qualified Captains. That's what they're going to run out of.

Just heard from a good source that Canjet has absolutely nothing lined up for after May. Maintenance department was told looks like it will finally shut down for good in May as well.

We've been told there's work for at least two after May and a good probability of work for more. However we were told before it shut down that things were good (ie loads were good, that Canjet was making money and the future was bright). After the shutdown we were told that it had been a sinking ship and that there was no other choice.
The problem is that they (ie. Ken Rowe/IMP) can tell us anything they want and we as employees have no way of distinguishing fact from fiction.
If history is a good indicator, and it usually is, this ship will sink. It is only a matter of how fast she goes down and how many she takes with her.
Hi Julie.

Daytripper, one thing you're wrong on is that we were told things were great. They told us nothing. Maybe middle management were showing optimism but everything was very quite up to the shutdown, and the only indications we had were the numbers in the logbook. To this day, we'll never know how CanJet really did with the sked service.
Doesn't sound like things are going to change.

Anyone who thinks CanJet is gonna last is living in a dream world. The #1 thing that sinks a career is the inability to adapt to change. Get out while the gettin is good, this ships gonna sink. Hope Ken is the only one who goes down with it.

Do you have a better paying job to offer Capt.?

Posted: Sun Jan 07, 2007 12:13 pm
by green bastard
First year AC $37000 (+good benefits), good future.
First year WJ $40000 (+good benefits), good future.
CJ capt. lets say an average of $80000/yr (benefits suck), no future.
Reality of CJ is- $80000x5months of employment =$33000
- 7 months of pogey =$10000
- Total $43000 minus EI overpayment ($39000 max)
For Cj fo's its a no brainer. For CJ Captains a slight pay loss but only for the first couple years. Commute might be tough. Excellent contracts out there.

Hifly, they're out there. I'm leaving very soon for a stable job, excellent benefits and a solid future(as solid as the aviation industry can be anyways). None of this "we think we'll have work for 1,2,3,5 airplanes during the summer months bullshit). Of course management is going to feed that shit to us, that's their job - to try to hold on to as many of us suckers as possible until the rug gets yanked out from under us again. @#$! that this time.
