Hum Thompson...

Post by Rudder Bug »

I was there for a week, troubleshootin a Navajo waste gate. One week before, I was assaulted and suffered cracked lips and a bleeding nose in Gillam by a guy from Thompson. The only time it happenned to me in my whole life. I did nothing to him, I was just white.

What are the tourists looking for out there while the rest of the world is waiting to be seen?

I've also seen some tourists in Georgetown, Guyana. Another wrong place to go. They don't stay long after they find out.

If Error is human, well don't be too human

I bet that's not the reason he picked on you.

FYI, lots of Indian guys get beaten up too when they visit certain places/reservations and Towns. It happens to girls too. Why do you think that happens?

Could you be more specific?

These are just things I know from people about true stories about people.

Hey Chantal,

I've been around in that life. I have awesome Native friends, doing and knowing things beyond imagination. I met with wonderful chaps in Thompson too. Thanks to them, our aircraft finally got going.

I was just meaning it's just another hole from my point of view. I just don't like the place.

Sorry if it hurted your feelings. I would not spend a week in Thompson for all the gold in the world.

Some have the same feeling about Yellowknife. Not my cup of tea, period. It might be a great place for some but not for other ones. Just a matter of taste, no more.

Cheers

RB - don't think you need to explain yourself, you've been around a heck of alot more than most.

Thompson, eh? Lucky you

Hey thanks FlyB, you're so sweet!

Nope, I'm not in Thompson but in BC, watching the rare snow falling.

Hope you are fine!

Cheers

It's not. You can get everything you need there, and then some..

But unless you're from Manitoba, it's a long ways away from anywhere, it's miserably fargin cold in the winter, and not a day goes by where you're not witnessing social issues that you can't do anything about because nobody who can make a difference seems to care...

It's not a bad place, but for some, after a few years, it's just depressing.

I've lived in MB, but never in Thomspon. I've flown in and out, so I don't know anything about the town itself.

All I know is that MB alltogether can be taken off the map for all I care. Just keep the french quarters of winnipeg, and move it to...let's say, hamilton.

Lets see. I've lived in Thompson for three years, traveled all around Northern Manitoba and deal with native bands on a daily basses. Sure downtown Thompson can be rough at times but so can downtown Toronto or Chilliwack or Fredricton or Kingston or Moosenee (I have lived in all of those places). Home is what you make of it. I like the outdoors and there is a ton of fishing. So if you haven't lived here in the great white North for more than 4 hours shut the $@% up, you really don't know what your talking about.

If Thompson has a beer store, a grocery store and high speed internet access, it's AOK in my books.

I was wondering what the housing situation is up there. I might be headed up in the next little while, don't know too many people there, and wouldn't have a place to stay.

Dude you took the words outta my mouth. I'm looking at jobs in Thompson and all I care about is a decent apartment with high-speed net. I don't plan on being there long, just enough time to get some experience and learn from established pilots; so I can kill free time playing various interweb games,

Well, here it is: the beginning of April, and another summer in YTH is looming large on the horizon. Can't wait to get up there! The great service in the restaurants, the locals slumming around the TI beer store at all hours of the day and night, the well-maintained roads...OTOH, there's the long hours of daylight, the waterski club, the fact that it subsidises my lifestyle for the rest of the year, working with a great bunch of guys, the amazing number of lakes and rivers going on for what seems like forever...

Thompson. I love it and hate it at the same time.

Yes indeed, it is what you make of it. Negative people will always find bad things where they are. Just read half of the posts on this website 8) . I will be starting a new job in YTH next month as well. Looking forward to it actually. North Shore...where is the waterski club? Wouldn't mind doing a little of that. Also looking at some kitesurfing if I can find one for a decent price. I might be celebrating my B-day early next month. I"ll just try to stay away from the TI. Probably hasn't changed since I was there last. See all of you boys around...and please turn up the heat for when I get there...I don't want my tan to fade too quickly. It will help me to "blend in" since I have lost the accent.

Twilight Waterski Club - at the end of Manasan Drive, off Westwood Dr, off Thompson Dr.. Boat will probably go in the water at the middle of June, just in time for Nickel Days...

See ya there!
