I have an interview next week.
Then they changed it recently!

Good luck on the interview. But with the numbers they are looking for...show up with a pulse...and a check book!

Nope.....nightflight is describing the bond that was offered to me (which I politely told Ole to shove).

qc says that the bond has changed from that.

What is that I feel? Could it be? Is that the first breeze of the winds of change?

They pay the interest? Wow, how big of them!!! But you still have to go get a loan, right? And still pilots don't have the balls to tell them to pound sand??
And the same people jump on guys who buy PPC's! WTF do you think the bank loan is for?? DUH!

To my understanding, the loan goes into a GIC; so VAL doesn't get to ''touch'' the money unless the driver jumps of the ship. I suppose its a way for the company to make sure they get there money back and not have to use collection agencies/go to court.

Sadly though they end up loosing candidates that are still paying of student loans....or with bad credit.

Oh they get to touch your money alright. They just happen to put it in a GIC, but the money is theirs and wether they pay it back on your belhalf or not is entirely up to them.
Interresting that they are now paying the interrest. Littlest first step amongst many they would have to take before they become anywhere close to being a desireable place to work. In another thread "2024" said it best when he/she said that the management there think that they own you because they gave you a job at a fantastic company. You should consider yourself very lucky to be a VAL pilot. It sounds strange, but talk to many that have and still work there and you'll see just how true this is. They are completely out to lunch and dont even know it. Somebody tell them that even though they might be a safe company, they are a shitty company to work for. They treat you like crap. There is a reason why North Bay is referred to as the "DEATH STAR" by those that work for them.
So remember all this can be yours for a mere $8000. Oh yeah and since we are such a great company we will pay the interrest for you. Have a nice day and dont forget to bring your own lube!

Don't do it.
The market is changing daily in our favour. If more of us could exercise restraint to show these operators that we will not sell our souls or our mothers for a chance to be exploited the conditions will change and we will start to earn the respect that we deserve.
You worked hard and spent a lot of money to prove your attitude and develop a marketable product. Don't give it away.
My year at "who's right not what's right" airways was the most stressful of my life. I for one will work at home depot before I beg for a job.
They make the Dash operation sound "glamorous" but it is completely sub standard in terms of support, expenses, salary, maintenance and time off. You are risking your life and giving up a lot to line their pockets in their overambitious money grab with the UN. There are more respectful operators in the UN arena if Africa is your thing.

Thanks for the info...

Yeah the money upfront thing wasn't for me so I cancelled the interview. I might be going on a twotter so that'll be pretty fun anyway.

You look like a very informed guy. I don't share all of your opinion :
- Money : you are probably right
- Rotations schedule : you can find better schedule ( 6/6), but 2/1 is more the "norm" roster in Africa
- Risking your life : You have to consider the fact that you are not the target. Moreover, shooting down an UN aicraft could have dramatic consequences for people doing that. (personnal and political). On my knowledge, this never append in Africa (C 130 in RDC /Kindu was an accident). So, a lot of people read this board, don't make their mother too worry... :D

- Over operators ? I am personally very intersted in knowing which one.
please, PM me. Thanks

Good for you Phileas Frogg. That helps the whole team. You can still tactfully tell them YOU don't want Them. Plus it gives you a good feeling if you have been left in the dark despite all your efforts of finding a place to set up shop for awhile. Let's keep it reasonable people.

From what I hear there is no longer a Dash 7 in Africa. They have moved the one that was in the DRC to East Timor. The Dash 7 does work all over the place and if you do get the job, you won't know where you're going until you get there.

Gawd, the desert in a Dash 7! Do you know how crappy the air conditioner in a Dash 7 is on the ground?

Makes me all sweaty just thinking about it.

The DHC-7 that was in DRC is definately in East Timor now. If you like trips to Darwin, Australia and back a few times a week its not a bad deal. They still have the one 7 in YVR and from what I hear they want two 7's plus an DHC-8 in YVR this summer. But who knows the rumors fly more around that place than the aircraft do. Untucked was right, if you are on the DHC-7 you go where ever they want you to go. On the other hand they are short of drivers so you might be able to wheel and deal with them.

Maintenance

Post by bzzzt »

Does anyone here know what it's like to work for Voyageur on the maintenance side of things. They're looking for traveling AMEs, and I wouldn't mind working outside the country for a while, just curious as to what I would be in for. Where do they currently operate out from?
Thanks.
