ok thanks, I hope you guys get a decent increase, the AME wages have been a joke way to long.
I fully agree, which is why I completely left years ago. There is no going back without starting over again. It's not just the wage, but this work is just too demanding, and the size of this industry is just too ridiculously small. Aviation is pathetic! I don't care anymore, and if you guys are going on strike, more power to you!
What a pathetic industry! I would like to argue as well that the things we do are not even transferable to other industries. They are specific to Aviation.
Few AMEs know how to do that then. I don't know how to do that and my past attempts ended up in failure. Personally speaking, the AME profession sucks! It's not just the pay but the treatment and lifestyle are also incredibly bad! I've had enough and I can no longer do it anymore! Doing this job just takes a big toll on your health! You are bending over all the time, you work on shitty schedules, you are working with too much chemicals, etc. A mechanical job such as this has no upward mobility! It's a very demanding blue-collar job! Obviously you cannot do this forever!
Looks like they were ordered back to work by the Federal Government. Does this make them an essential service that the government can order them back?
Didn’t you guys claim your Liberal government friends would never, EVER do this, unlike the big bad Harper Gov?
LOL!
I'm not sure who you are calling a Liberal Rookie but if you are referring to me I'm officially offended.
No one in particular, but a lotta people were praising JT that he’d never do this. Where is Singh? Polishing his rolex? No one is a Liberal fan now, surprise surprise.
They will screw you. Get inflation down on YOUR backs.

My understanding is Trudeau is on the phone with WestJet management right now VERY upset that his wife and her bf's travel plans have been disrupted.

All of us AME's who now sit on the sidelines support you guys 100%. Finally able to apply the pressure that was denied to us to fix the damage that has been done to the trade and make it attractive once again hopefully. Bravo. Just waiting to see the government response now. This is not an essential service it's just an airline. The government is in a shaky legal position if they enact back to work legislation.
Interesting to see how many people support workers rights to a fair salary and compensation, but only when it doesn't inconvenience them. Oh no your flight to Mexico might be cancelled how horrific. As already mentioned, air travel isn't a right, it's a privilage. Go fly with another airline for now or drive.

Those negative voices are a necessary part of the process. They show the anger of the traveling public causing bad PR, which should put extra pressure on management to settle.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

None of the news articles and public opinion quotes I've read seem to blame the mechanics. It's all along the lines of "wj needs to be more compassionate". I know the passengers mean wj needs to be more compassionate towards the customers, but it applies to every employee group too, especially the mechanics.
