Porter seeks injunction against Air Canada, Jazz

Lovely. Just lovely. I would like to remind some of you (correctly I hope) that Air Ontario was one reason City Express went under in 1991. Yes there were many reasons it went under but. Back then both companies operated fairly new Dash 8's. and flew to the same destinations. Air Ontario was down there for one reason and one reason only. And it suceeded.
Now let's see the east corner property with Hangar 1 and the rest of the adornments has a 99 year lease (or is it less??? let me know) on it with the Pappalardos. They went in for the long term and unless Porter or the Island Authority buys them out will stay there for a long long time (location location location).
You can discuss this ad nauseum but in the end it's all just a matter of time. Any bookies out there taking bets on this????

Here's another few cents to add to the pot...
Jazz's sole reason for existing at this time is to feed passengers into AC's aircraft. The island airport is useless to AC because any passengers flying in to, or out of there will never connect onto an AC flight. They are fighting the battle with Porter to stoploss potential revenue.
It therefor is also pointless to argue that Porter is being denied the opportunity to operate as a AC connector. Unless they start flying from smaller airports into either YYZ or YUL, which seems unlikely in the near future. Their business plan hinges on the ability to operate out of Canada's largest city without competing directly with any major Canadian carriers.

Montreal - Toronto and Ottawa-Toronto are two of the largest O+D's in Canada. No need for connections on those routes.Willie Limits wrote: The island airport is useless to AC because any passengers flying in to, or out of there will never connect onto an AC flight. Air Ontario never made money on the YTZ-YUL route
Only YTZ-YOW did well since there was a lot of federal/provincial gov traffic between the two points.
How are the loads at Porter??
At YUL, their counter is always empty.......or is it just me?
Asking a pilot about what he thinks of Transport Canada, is like asking a fire hydrant what does he think about dogs.

The loads are very good. You may not see many people at one time because we ony have one aircraft on the ground at one time. AC will have 15 and Westjet maybe 5. You will see longer queues when we have 10 plus aircraft.
These arguments can go on ad nauseum but none of us flying those Q400s are too worried. Porter is doing very well, thank you very much.
As has been said many times on here we aren't as concerned about loads as we are about yields. Of course we all want to fill our planes but we have a very high yield passenger who needs to get there. We are unique in Canada in this respect.

It would be even better if the City who gains from the industrial jobs of Q400 workers at Downsview (some of the few remaining industrial jobs) wouldn't actively toe the Community Air line, try and pedestrianise the approach to the quayside, etc. [It would also help if the Port Authority could avoid getting offside with the media]
