Sorry to hear that.
In my neighborhood you see new houses with a band new 4x4 truck and another brand new car or SUV parked in front of the garages and I can almost guarantee that the houses are filled with brand new furniture... all on credit.
This is the way society has been taught to live... buy now, pay later, and charge up the credit cards... it's really sad!

In answer to the question "How do you get $80K in debt?"; well, one purchase at a time.
My buddy went through a few rough patches and hasn't been able to find work in PEI for about 6 months and the debt servicing finally was too much.
For those folks who went in on the $0 down and 40 year amortization, it would only take a job loss and a bad job market to send things over the edge. There's an awful lot of Canadians (admittedly less than Americans) who chose that option. Hang on to your hats.

I see that no one has had anything to say about EnerJet since Jan 27 on here. Is that because that is about the last time that one of their 37's were in the air. The other was 11 days ago, except for today, when it actually did something.
How many thousands of dollars are lost a day with a $30 million dollar aircraft sitting around doing sweet FA?

Every time I taxi by Apron 5 it seems they are always sitting there. At the rate they are going they will have to book some time in the sim for 3 bump and splats!

Honestly, I don't think they're too concerned. They have made their money and Enerjet was a way to put the fun back into the job.

Pretty sure Suncor is still on the hook for quite abit of money to EnerJet. Suncor pays for the fuel and all airport fees so it is probably cheaper not to use them at this stage. They are shopping the jets to the charter/tour operators markets but that ship has sailed for this year I think. There is some talk of positioning the aircraft out east in the summer to take advantage of the busy season...we'll see..

I disagree. Suncor had a power by the hour type agreement and seeing as they have shut down everything in Firebag there is not the need for the flight from the east coast.

I highly doubt the oil companies will have any kind of guaranteed hours on these charter flights... I would assume Enerjet is suffering like the other airlines who were doing business hauling workers in and out of the camps.

I work with a view on to the ramp where their planes are parked. They rarely go anywhere. Any intelligent person going to Enerjet should have known it was a risk. I understand they have lots of money behind them so they may be able to weather the storm.

You couldn't be further from the truth.
Borek and Enerjet have no relation at all!!! Only reason you see Enerjet parked near Borek is the fact that Aero holds the AMO for Enerjet

CALGARY, Alberta (Reuters) - Suncor Energy Inc, Canada's No.2 oil company, agreed to buy rival Petro-Canada for about C$18.43 billion ($14.86 billion) to expand its oil sand reserves and create the country's biggest energy group.
The deal comes after a period of missed earnings targets and project delay at Petro-Canada, and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2009.
The all-share offer represents a premium of about 28 percent to the C$29.65 closing price of Petro-Canada shares on Friday as assuming 484.4 million Petro-Canada shares outstanding as of December 31, 2008.
On completion of the proposed deal, Suncor's existing shareholders will own about 60 percent and Petro-Canada shareholders will own about 40 percent of the merged company, the companies said.
Petro-Canada shareholders will receive 1.28 common shares of the merged company for each Petro-Canada share, while Suncor shareholders will get one common share of the merged company for each Suncor share.
The companies expect to achieve annual operating expenditure reductions of $300 million.
They also expect to achieve annual capital efficiencies of about $1 billion through elimination of redundant spending and targeting capital budgets to high-return, near term projects.
The deal would combine Petro-Canada's extensive retail gasoline and refining business and its international operations with Suncor's extensive operations in the oil sands, where it is the No. 2 producer behind Syncrude Canada Ltd.
Petro-Canada delayed its Fort Hills oil sands project last year because of rising costs.
Petro-Canada has also faced pressure to boost the value of its shares, which have lagged rivals because the company's management has failed to boost production and the firm's repeated failures to meet earnings targets.
Its shares have dropped 31 percent over the past 12 months while Suncor stock is down 35 percent.

How do you figure? Wouldn't it just mean more utilization of the Suncor CRJ's for more Petro Canada employee flight.
