Exactly. The other day we held up 2 other planes because "our crew" was not there and the crew "next door" just sat and watched. Their inbound was held up behind us and we were not in a position where we could get out of way so all 3 of us waited for "our crew" to arrive. Just brutal.

Not nesscessarily the crews fault. I have be hauled into the office by management before because I was not at my flight on time. Guess what I was doing, parking the flight next door and retrieving a stroller from the bulk hold. What do think I did the next time a flight waited at a gate to be parked. Its easy to blame the crews all the time but how about the people in STOC planning the crews on flights.

Yup - pulling favours for other crews who get to work nothing but RJs or four flights in an eight hour shift while the rest of us get to work 8, 10 flights in a night because of them.

Unfortunately, these problems are symptoms of a much bigger issue. The bigger issue is how the airline is managed as a whole. All this segregation of spun off companies, each with it's own budget, racing costs to the bottom is damaging the whole.

Case and point, is what we have just been discussing. ACGHS, as with other departments, are too pre-occupied with cost cutting. Nobody is actually sitting there looking at the situation to realize that when ACGHS for example, makes a cost cutting measure that saves them 10 dollars, that action just cost another department 50 dollars. Net loss, 40 bucks. Another example is ACTS and the use of APU's. The fuel to run said APU comes from Flight Ops. The cost of a GPU at the hangar comes from the ACTS budget. Little wonder why we had airplanes parked all over the ramps with APU's running continuously at $145 a barrel. Still happens today. On any given evening when I drive out of the employee parking lot in YYZ, there are a couple of wide bodies sitting there with APU's running. Not a GPU in sight.

In YYC, I taxied past no less that four RJ's sitting in the south hold with APU's running. All the while Flight Ops is coming up with some insane ways of trying to save fuel and blaming the company's woes on it's high cost. Not to mention the environmental impact. Teacher's example above is a classic example that occurs far too often. So ACGHS is saving money by not hiring enough staff but we are now burning fuel through three idle aircraft, delaying their operation, paying flight and cabin crews to sit there, impacting the schedule down line and not mention, we may have just blown a pile of connections. But hey, look at all the money we are saving!!

Is Calin going to look at all this? I highly doubt it.

Jacques,

Take a closer look. The APU's are not running. I see them every night.

Also, it is cheaper to park them off gate than to pay the GTAA for the gate fees (even for a few hours).
