Twin Otter on CAPs, but pretty much anything on floats!!
Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
One of the best "handling" airplanes I've flown is the Bellanca Viking! Almost an aerobatic roll rate. Hedley...you'd love the thing!

Favourite airplane: Beaver on floats... I've only flown in one once and was the first time sitting in a cockpit and actually flying a plane. Beats the 172 I fly anyday.
Favourite aircraft is the Bell 407, gotta be the nicest looking copter out there with those wide-stance skids.

"it is more than just a way to get from place to place."
"the vikings wing is an excellent example of bellanca's care and craftsmanship it's shaped from over 1800 pieces of sitka spruce and mohogany and each piece of carefully checked to ensure the perfection of the grain and the strength of the lamination. The work is meticulous and demanding, it requires a high degree of skill and a dedication to excellence, but one look at a viking wing convinces you that extra time and extra effort is a small price to pay for this rare statement of pride and workmanship. Obviously, the viking wing is unlike any other. there is not a rivet or a seam anywhere on its surface, it is perfectly smooth perfectly aerodynamic, and incredibly strong too. The vikings wing weighs only 230 pounds yet it can withstand the force of up to 3 tons along its wing and the constant flexing of flight will never cause it to fatigue."

Anyone fly a gc-1b?! That's the one on my list

Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
I would love for somebody to invite me to fly a PC-12 for a few hours.
I enjoyed doing some Cessna Citation single-pilot flying. Small enough to believe it could be my own private plane, but with some very impressive performance characteristics for a single-pilot aeroplanooooo.

Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
I like how I can go anywhere and dock to anything in a beaver. I can get into spots our twin otter can't, plus it's fun to fly and has a sweet-sounding radial.
The steen skybolt was a riot, I really enjoy being up in that. Although a culp special is the same plane with a radial, so I'd probably like that more.
The stearman was very enjoyable too, fun to fly.
I'm really looking forward to trying out a beech 18.

Yes. It was really maneuverable and light on the controls. A quick little plane, and way ahead of it's time.

Its not the amount of time you get but what you do with it.flying4dollars wrote:sky's the limit wrote:flying4dollars wrote:
And you'd only get to fly 300 hours on it a year
300??? I think you're a little high.....
Maybe I shoulda said a max of 300 hours :S
Either way, it's not a lot! If I ever went through with the airforce, my top pick would be transport, then high performance.
Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
I watched a young (aged 17) Jimmy Franklin do an airshow with a Bellance Viking, in the early 70's. Nothing agressive, mind you.Doc wrote:One of the best "handling" airplanes I've flown is the Bellanca Viking! Almost an aerobatic roll rate. Hedley...you'd love the thing!

I later caught that. Thanks for finding that. Jimmy's dad also flew in that show. I think it was the black UPF-7 that crashed.BoostedNihilist wrote:BMC: I posted a link of jimmy doing some aerobatics in a viking
It was at St. Jean airport south of Montreal.

Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
Most interesting for me was the CV14 or as it was known PBY-5A. Also CL-215, those were hard to start, hands fingers everywhere, if I remember.
The personal best was the BE-200, I really liked that airplane
