Ah so..
Canadian citizens are now nothing more than guests in TC's airspace and should be thankful when TC allows them to use their airspace?

I had no idea, no wonder some here think I am out of touch.

Re: Another Olympic Meeting
I wasn't addressing you alone, viccoastdog. Perhaps you should have read the entire forum to understand the discussion at that point. I didn't say that the company for which you fly operates in the US; previously I drew a comparison between the Olympic restrictions and flying across the border. In both cases a flight plan is needed, and if you substitute a customs arrival report for a flight authorization and customs clearance in place of security screening, the requirements are very similar. If you find that so onerous, you must not cross the border very often - that was my point. I apologize for my spelling error; I was working a twelve-hour shift at one of my jobs, taking full advantage of the increase in operations which is a result of the Olympics, and I was both fatigued and short on time.viccoastdog wrote:Sorry for quoting the whole blurb, but it's necessary because I have to ask you where in my post did I say I thought the "RCMP are out to get me" or any other paranoid drivel. Nowhere in my post do I bring up getting shot down by an F18 or even a concern about interception.
What I am saying is that much of the procedures for Olympic security is either for show, or for various departments just to cover their asses. And in doing so it affects our business detrimentally. We don't fly to the US, so we have no need to suffer through the procedures for cross border flights. Also, I stated that the requirements of CYR186 have essentially blocked us from going to certain places that in the past we've had reason to fly to. Why? Because the places don't have a screening facility - heck, some of them don't even have a dock!
Oh, and BTW, I'm pretty literate; enough so to know that "indimidation" isn't a word.
I've repeated myself several times, and restated my position to make it more easily understood, but clearly it isn't getting across. That's not surprising considering some in here can't even be bothered to find out what they require to fly in the OCA, but still feel the need to rave against the restrictions. For those of you who think a few restrictions are turning Canada into a fascist dictatorship, consider this: just because there are soldiers on the streets of Vancouver does not mean there is a military takeover of the country. There are soldiers on the streets of Edmonton, Comox, Shilo, Oromucto, Ottawa, etc., but there's a big difference between soldiers going for lunch and soldiers standing behind barricades pointing their rifles at civilians in the hopes they'll have an opportunity to shoot them. The military and police have no malicious intent, no plans of domination, and no hopes of shooting down civilian aircraft. The police and soldiers are people just look you and me, and they're doing their jobs. Before you start making wild, reactionary accusations about conspiracy theories, maybe you should give the issue some more thought.
Because I've already made my point, I'm going to ask some questions, and I'll only bother responding to posts addressing them. 1. How can the RCMP take control of the country using airspace restrictions? 2. What restrictions from Kananaskis are still in place? 3. What security measures would be acceptable? If you think nothing is too little, and the actual restrictions are too much, then how much is just right? If you don't have a solution, then you don't have a problem, and you're just bitching.
Re: Another Olympic Meeting
Here's how I see it. Sorry, this is more of a political rant. Canada is a great country to live in, especially if you like excess heat in the summer, snow and cold in the winter, unlimited bugs the rest of the time. Other than that, it is a great country, and while I haven't seen everything Doc and Cat have, I've been around.
The Canadian government sucks. I think modi13 ranted about voting. For what. Every politician's primary job from the time they get elected...is to get re-elected. The house of commons is a joke. like religion, it served a purpose thousands of years ago. Control.
Our parliament has invaded our homes, our lives, our livelyhood, all in the name of getting re-elected. Sounds like the USSR in the 60's, but hey what did they know, we can do better. Now here is a novel idea in the 21st century. We eliminate parliaments, which were invented hundreds of years ago when it took weeks to get to a central meeting spot. This was back in the days of horse and carriage. Why not just hire the best professionals in each field, pay them well and let them run the country... Do good? get a bonus. Shareholders (stakeholders) meeting? Once a month via votes on the internet. Hire one big mouth to represent the country.
Seems to work in business. Just ask Tim Horton's.
As for air security, you can't control everything. Has there been a highjacking of a light airplane in North America to ever do harm? Aren't we getting strip searched at airports. In world politics a successful owe limpdick event is judged by how well security was, not medals one. And bye the way I am pissing away hard earned money to travel to what is the most poorly organized event (as far as the internet goes) I have ever seen.
I look forward to enjoying the epitomy of sports events, and while I an getting done up the ying yang on overpriced mcburgers and beer, I will try to savor a world class event. I wish them and our athletes the best of success.
I just wish Transport Canada would f#*k off and and use some reason in what they do, but why change now?

Nooooo pal; you can't have it any way you like. You shouldn't have quoted me at length (indeed, you quoted me in full) and then made disparaging comments that, by inference, could only have been directed at the person you were quoting - me! It's for YOU to do the research and quote the correct and relevant posters.modi13 wrote:I wasn't addressing you alone, viccoastdog. Re: Another Olympic Meeting
I'm sorry to so-called, yank your soup but this is a way to prevent officials from having to pay millions of dollars to lost business. They call it security so that they can shut the mouth of every squealing duck that goes against it. I mean what can you say to "security?" Absolutely nothing. The "man" has once again created a system where it can do what ever it wants, when ever it wants, and in whatever fashion it wants. Modern dictatorship I call itmodi13 wrote:Yes; see Ahmed Ressam.MichaelP wrote:During the 1999/2000 New Year, vehicle traffic was restricted into Vancouver. Was the threat level higher then?
Do you honestly believe that they're implementing these security measures specifically to disrupt the lives of students, instructors, and private pilots? They're performing their due-diligence; it might not be sufficient to stop all threats, but at least they can say that they did everything reasonable, and then some, to mitigate the risk.
Flying is a privelege, not a right, and you aren't even being prevented from flying. Transport Canada owns the air above us, and they decide whether we're allowed to use it. They can create CYRs wherever they deem it necessary, for any purpose related to the safety of the public or pilots. The only reason you're complaining and accusing the RCMP of infringing on your rights is because it directly affects you; you don't do the same when TC restricts your freedom to fly through the mountains northeast of Comox. The restrictions in place are not significantly different than those for crossing the border, with security inspections in place of customs.
I see an opportunity for instructors in all this: since students have to go to YXX or YYJ before they can go solo, the instructor gets time they otherwise wouldn't have if they simply signed off the solo. Granted, that will cost the student more, but I intend to get my students finished well within the minimum time requirements. 45 hours are 45 hours, and if they finish all the other requirements at 40 hours instead of 35 because of some extra dual, it shouldn't have too much of a negative impact.
It's ridiculous; 3 flight plans have to be filed the day before the flight and special authorization codes have to be given? Have you ever heard of such a thing? At least on September 12th, 2001, the day after the "tragedy," flights resumed in normal fashion but with increased airport security. Who here, a training student has a flight in their log book from September 12th? I'm sure there are quite a few of you. I don't remember having to file 3 flight plans back then.
The bottom line is this; any body could walk through the terminal at czbb, hop into a plane, hot wire it, and off they go flying into GM place. It doesn't have to be the Olympics; it can happen any time.
My 2 cents - I applied some politics in my response. I smell a war.

Loopa,
I have completely disagreed with alot of your posts. But I am with you 120% on that one.
People have become sheeple... completely unwilling to stand up for their rights. Instead, they take everything the politicians say at face value and eat it up..

Re: Another Olympic Meeting
The Olymprick security measures are a sick joke. We are being manipulated and taxed to pay for BS.
Re: Another Olympic Meeting
Its a good time to fly a Griffon or CF18...they've been flying non-stop..
don't know for what
don't know for what
Re: Another Olympic Meeting
CF's biggest peace time operation in history, so a bunch of athletes can strut their (chemically enhanced) stuff. Bigger than Red River floods, Ice Storm...
Great that they get to fly and all, but sets a dangerous precedent for military and increased police presence.

Re: Another Olympic Meeting
My first introduction to that style of government was in 1975 just after the overthrow of Allende in Chile, took a while to adjust to especially the curfew at night where they shot you if you wandered out in the street.
One thing positive I did notice there were no druggies breaking into cars or mugging old ladies with all those armed government people standing around...maybe this will be a real positive change for Vancouver?

I would rather have my car broken into than be stopped by military police and questioned every time I crossed the street or went outside at night. As far as the olympricks are concerned, I am in the Okanagan. peaceful and quiet here.
