Did Porter start another ground school class since they cancelled the IPO?

No, and I wouldn't expect one until the fall or whenever Air Canada hires, whichever comes first

I know a bunch of Porter guys who can't wait to get out of there. To all those aspiring to work for Porter....the grass isn't as green as you think

It's not a great environment for pilots. I do hope Jazz buys the company or a union steps in.

Nice first post there texmex! And to think I though I would have a good day today. I didn't realize I had it so rough at Porter...

You never trust what is in the media...
The IPO has nothing to do with ground schools or the people that are leaving .We just don't have any airplanes to buy, but we would if we could. From our 200 pilots if 2 or 3 leaving well thats 1 to 1.5 percent.
I think that attrition seams kinda low don't you?
I would try to pick on some other company that is having agreement problems, or one that pays too low.
Hand it over to you debbie.
I am out............

The 2 year/$30,000 bond probably keeps attrition lower than what it would otherwise be.
It's still a good turbo-prop gig for most, strictly from what I hear

2year/$30,000... I thought it was $60,000?

Actually the bond is $20,000 for 2 years and a lot of us no longer have bonds and we ain't leavin! There are always those looking for the greener grass and they will leave. If they do I hope they find what they are looking for. Porter has a lot to offer people. It depends on what you are looking for. Just ask the Skyservice guys that came. No its not perfect but it a pretty good gig. If only a turbo-prop job. BTW I have flown Boeings and its not always about the airplane you fly. As far as the horrible environment we work in sure its been busy but they are taking steps to improve conditions it just takes time. Improvements are coming be sure of it.
As far as the IPO goes they will do it when the time is right for them. More airplanes are coming, when they do more ground schools will happen and it won't be too long. One thing about Mr. Deluce is he always has a backup plan.

It's always good to have a back up plan when the company you work for is hemmoraging cash at industry leading rates.

It's that smugness that will be WestJets downfall one day, but you know what? we will probably take the high road and not say "we told you so"....And no I am not jealous, I did the WestJet thing for a couple of years, even helped a few guys get jobs there on this site believe it or not.
But the that last statement by Lisa pretty much sums up the companies view of itself. To each its own.

What makes you so sure this fellow is a westjetter?
Perhaps past tense is more correct, just like
yourself
Nice comment about 'douchebag westjetter'

Don't we all know by now that no airline is bullet proof. Airlines come and go like drunk one-night stands.

No shit. People are people, jobs are jobs. Do what's best for you and keep it to yourself... keep your dick in your pants, no one really gives a shit how long you think it is.
Couldn't have said it better myself...don't confuse my view regarding WestJet the company to my view regarding some of their employees here. WestJet is good company that makes money, and is run well and I have
always said that. It is the attitude of some chiming in whenever they can to put down others in this industry. So feel free to chime in when you like, and I will feel free to call you a douche bag for doing so... cause you are.
When a WestJet employee chimes in when others are talking about Porter's training agreements to say how bad the company is doing and then ends his sentence with a emoticon with shades on...how do you view this? I view it as "I have nothing really to add to the conversation besides I am awesome and you suck" or "the truth hurts" statement...sounds like two bullies at the playground picking on the little guy cause they can.

I've always been a fan of Porter. After reading an article the other day stating they went from losing 11 million since inception to 43 million in 1 quarter I'd have to say something is going very wrong. The IPO didn't work and with numbers like that I doubt it will work anytime soon. If there is a plan B I hope you switch to it.
PS companies will hire right up to the day the doors close.

Lost 43 million in 1 quarter? where did you read that?
I think you meant 4.3 million.
That all being said, Porter is well on their way to making a considerable profit this year.

Lets be realistic here. Zoom and Skyservice pilots went to the only company that was hiring pilots, and direct entry captains no less!
I don't think any of those pilots would have quit their previous jobs to go to Porter if their companies were still around. Otherwise they would have joined Porter 3 years ago.
Regarding people leaving, it is hard to tell when no other company is hiring, as it was the case a few years back. When AC, WJ, JZ, etc. start hiring again, then we will all see how many decide to jump ship.
Until that happens, enjoy and take good care of your job.
Remember that in this industry there are a lot of other guys willing to do your job for less money and poorer conditions. Even pay or sign a bond. Still shocks me that we pilots accept this practice as an industry standard.
I always wonder how many employees RBC, for example, would get if they required new hires to accept bonds for the thousands and thousands of dollars they are going to spend training them? And believe me, they spend way more than the cost of a type rating, but they assume that as just part of the cost of doing business.

This "IPO", is a front to buy Q400 with laser beams attached to them.
