Re: 2011 Ground Schools
Single duty period up to 9:59 = 1 full meal
Check out time later than 1600 = dinner; earlier than 1600 = lunch
Duty period greater than 7 hours = daily incidental
After 1600.......29.44+15.98=45.42
Section 12
Once ground training is complete you will have a base assignment. If sim training
Is away from base, it is essentially a multi day pairing and you will get per diems as such.

Nope, you wont see full per piem until on line-indoc. I little sad to see this kind of nickle and dim by the company. also the with holding of passes for 6 month.... does that really save them money??? why take that away now?

evilhomer wrote:I hope somebody can clearify this: if an individual fails a medical for obvious reasons, that is to say for what the medical testing is designed for I understand employment will not be an option. But for the simulator evaluation; should an individual not perform well are they told that due to that reason employment will not be offered? Is there an actual pass or fail or is the evaluation looking at you: the person. I ask this because I heard people pass the interview stage but after the sim. and/or medical no offer.
That is correct, the sim is to see how you do 2 crew as has been stated on this site NUMEROUS times, and the medical is well self explanitory.
I have a buddy that went through, did everything to recieve a PFO after the medical. At no point will they tell you the reason that you did not get on, that is for up to you to wonder.

Just FYI.
Pass privileges are now subject to a 6 month waiting period. This is an Air Canada initiative and applies to new-hires there as well.
Policy became effective April 1. (And they weren't foolin').

So are the pass privileges everyone is talking about here, the passes for friends/family or your own personal use????? Or are they about being able to commute to work??????
Re: 2011 Ground Schools
No AC pass travel at all. It was supposed to be made clear to all newhire candidates during the interview/sim-eval process.Juice26 wrote:So are the pass privileges everyone is talking about here, the passes for friends/family or your own personal use????? It's not a nice deal, but this was Air Canada's decision. Jazz has no control in it.
Re: 2011 Ground Schools
that being said you still have Jumpseat privilages through Alpa...so communting isn't impossible...just alittle harder if a flight is full.
ALSO an important point which comes up the first two days...Any training at Jazz...dress code is Buisness Casual
This was stressed SEVERAL times in the first two days by our instructors AND the VP OF OPS AND DFO themselves.
Technically biz caz has recently included clean denim (the kind you'd wear to a club
)...however at Jazz NO DENIM is allowed....so just be advised as afew ppl in my class had to go out and buy dress pants after day 1.

Yep, confirmed, the union is looking into options. It is important to note that this is for BOTH groups, AC changed the policy and it applies to AC Pilots as well as Jazz Pilots. WOW, so new hires at AC will have no passes and a DC pension to boot, where do I sign up. What next, a 10 yr 50,000.00 bond? It appears Calin will try just about anything to break any morale that might of possibly existed.
Jazz did manage to keep the passes for the April 18 course, as the terms of employment included passes, so going forward, 6 months waiting period. Good on the company for standing up for that class.

Re: 2011 Ground Schools
Bing Bong, no disrespect intended, but in my initial course everyone had a tie on. We're not in highschool and frankly showing up in jeans, in my opinion, is a little bit unprofessional. Even though we can wear jeans for pass travel now, I still travel with a collared, button up shirt and dress pants. It's all about how you want to present yourself.

Re: 2011 Ground Schools
Thanks for all the info on here, but I am slightly unsure about the pass travel issue. I just got the call for the May 30th GS and am super happy about it. The HR person on the phone told me about "No pass travel for 6 months" and when I asked him about possibly commuting (since I do not know the base I will be assigned until GS) he said "you will still be able to commute". So can anyone clarify this for me? Does this travel on Jazz only? Or Jazz andsay WJ but not AC?
Re: 2011 Ground Schools
Up until a couple years ago everyone that started at AC or Jazz had to wait 6 months for passes! Many commuted then to! If you were told when you were hired that passes came after 6 months and still took the job then there's not much to complain about!mbav8r wrote:Yep, confirmed, the union is looking into options. K thanks for that info, as new hires "WE" will be able to commute to work. Thats good to know off the get go here, the family and friends can suck it up for 6 months lol. They've been buggin for years, so another few months won't kill them.

We don't really know what the new policy is other then that there is no passes for 6 months. Nothing official has been posted by the company to date.
The last time we had the 6 month policy in effect. You could only commute to and from work if you are based in YYZ only. At that time, AC was hiring pilots for YYZ only so they waived the 6 months for that base. Should you get based in YUL, or YYC, you were basically SOL.
FYI there were opeining on all bases from the last bid. So far to my knowledge, all spots offered in the groundschools were offered out west, mainly YYC and some YVR.
It is unknown at this point on wether or not the YYZ waiver policy will apply this time around.

Re: 2011 Ground Schools
Why is YYC a "hot spot"? Why don't pilots want to be there? Seems to me that a lot of pilots that have been given YYC in their GS are trying to change base.
Re: 2011 Ground Schools
Correct me if I'm wrong but a couple of years ago, couldn't you Jumpseat with AC and Jazz? Currently, Jazz and AC can only Jumpseat if the cabin is full.

Re: 2011 Ground Schools
Well I guess because most of the guys are not from out there and some of them have families so they want to be as close to their home town as possible.jason81 wrote:Why is YYC a "hot spot"? On top of that apart from the Rockies there's nothing exciting about being in YYC (no direspect for those out there).

exciting is not the word for sure but you have enough museum / pub / theatres / cinemas not to get too bored. On top of that apart from the Rockies there's nothing exciting about being in YYC (no direspect for those out there).
at least it's always better than Timmins for instance.
Re: 2011 Ground Schools
I'd be guessing Westjet is still hiring a fair amount of our guys in YYC so hence the "always available" YYC base. Many new hires have been awarded other bases soon after line indoc though as there are still openings in YYZ and YUL.

And the Company!.....Trust me I'm the same about the shirt and tie...I don't see why airline travel should be as lax for dress code as it is getting..mbav8r wrote:. It's all about how you want to present yourself.
