So who's going to be the one to tell these two to pay for an extra seat?

Re: Man stands throughout 7-hour flight
they look thinner in black, don't they?
Success in life is when the cognac that you drink is older than the women you drink it with.

And, they think they're "all that"...Changes in Latitudes wrote:So who's going to be the one to tell these two to pay for an extra seat?

I heard a "story" of an 800 lb'er in just that situation. I dont know if it was Iqaluit or not but it was one of the far northern areas.oldtimer wrote: What do we do with the supersize people? Do we just let then die because there is no way to transport them? If a supersize person living in Iqaluit has a heart attack, how do they get them to a cardiac hospital.
The story I heard is that there was a First Air 737 chartered for the trip.
I have no idea how true it is, but it seemed like it was possible.

It would suck if the two seats weren't next to each other.

The OP says the passenger notified flight attendants that he couldn't fasten his seat belt for takeoff and landing. Regardless of the debate about accommodating people of excessive size (and who or what is to blame for their size), how can you justify denying any one a seat belt, let alone their comfort? Shouldn't the Captain have been notified? Shouldn't the Captain have directed that the passenger must be wearing a seat belt, or switch seats, or remove someone from the airplane (which person will surely be a great debate for another day) so that everyone actually sitting was wearing a seat belt? Isn't this required by FAA and TC regs? I think the airline in this case should be penalized by the regulator for violating safety regs - maybe then the airline would have the legal leg to stand on when they need to do something about passengers of size.
I'd love to see the legal fall out of a high speed reject / in flight turbulence / hard landing for a passenger without a seat belt. Hello settlement.
