If you could please direct me to an operator that hires lower time pilots to work 8 hrs a day, that would be great. I work 4 weeks a month at 10-12 hour days minimum.. 14 hour days to get two weeks off would be a blessing

I'm not comparing to other pilot jobs. I'm merely saying the excuse of 'working half the year' for lower salaries, is not valid.

Chatted with these guys a while back. Right seat pay was something like 23k a year and left seat was 41k. Im thinking they are the lowest paid 200 drivers in Canada right now

I don't think that's accurate. Last I heard starting wage for a BE20 capt there was about $52k. That's going back about 2-3 years though.

45 900 $ left seat first year. 40$ perdiems per day up north. So with per diems up north yes the total would be 52k but perdiems are not salary.

15 years ago base pay for a year 1 F/O on the PC-12/BE-20/SW2A were all $25K. Left seat was $45K and both seats got a 5K raise each year.

Recent university grads are in the same boat now. How much longer can people with no experience say NO to an unpaid position when there are thousands willing to take it? I think it's sad, but also the reality of the world today. A few people saying "no thank-you" will not change anything. With TFW's and more and more people moving here there is increased competition for what seems to be the same number (or less) of job openings in previous years. I've watched my employer lay off middle aged experienced workers so they can be replaced by a new grad who gets 1/3 the wage. "re-structuring" is the term.

Does Keewatin ever hire pilots during the winter, as in November/December? Would 500TT all 702 S/E make someone a competitive applicant?

I got FAR less than that 15 yrs ago there.. I was happy going to another company where I got paid 24G/year.

What Postmastergeneral said is correct. I'm going back a little but I'm pretty sure the info is still accurate. Overall it's a good company to work for. Is it perfect? No. But then again no company is. As 703/704 jobs go it's decent. Most people are on a 14 on 14 off schedule. You travel on one of your days off though so really it's 13 off unless you happen to live in Winnipeg or Ottawa.
As for pay, king air captains start at 45900, FOs at 25K. You can count on $7000+/yr in per diems as well. 1900 caps at 51k and FOs at 31k. PC12 and Lear pay more but don't count on getting on the Lear unless you're already in the company. If you choose to do extra days the rate is about $200-300/day depending on your salary.
Training is good. The company moved to sim training for all airplanes which is better than most/many 703 operators I've seen. Bond is $12.5/2yr. No cash up front.
Housing is as described above. All pretty good, imo iqaluit is the best though simply because it's new housing. Most people get their own apartment. Sometimes you share but it's not bad. You're two people to a two bedroom apartment
As for hours. King air in YFB do 500-600/yr. YRT does 700-800/yr and YYQ falls somewhere in the middle. The other AC types vary but for the most part you're looking at 500+/yr.
And as for the million dollar question, am I competitive? Well that depends on timing. When there is a lot of movement in the industry requirements go down. Generally speaking though the company wants you to work 8-12 months on the ramp or dispatch and then you get a shot at a sim eval. If you pass you wait for a spot to open on flight line and you get called up. These positions are filled usually by 200 hr guys. The company generally doesn't hire direct entry pilots unless they can't fill the positions from within the company. In That case they prefer to hire type rated guys. If there are none then they will look to hire non type rated off the street pilots. So having <1000 hr and no type rating usually doesn't make you competitive. BUT that's not a rule. With all the Expected movement in the industry over the next little while you very well could be competitive. Best bet is to throw out an app and maybe pick up the phone and call or just drop in. If you REALLY want to work there aim for a ramp/dispatch position. If that's not for you, keep applying and look elsewhere as well. As with anything in this industry timing is everything. Hope this answers your questions.

Does anyone have any current info on Keewatin? Hiring, pay, schedule etc.
