Generally that is true.....but once you are over 75 years old the health insurance is just too expensive.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

I seriously looked at an RV. Figured it'd be cheaper to use Holiday Inn Expresses. I don't think people camp (that way, at least) to save money.

OK 50 to 60 cents per mile ... at Kamloops prices you're getting about 4 kilometers out of a liter regular.
Next couple of days don't see a headwind going to Calgary, slightly favorable maybe, so reducing the fuel flow a bit more when approaching up-to/over the crests can pay off some ... where the down hill starts off slower, a slightly longer duration of acceleration from gravity (where the 454 is only sipping lightly).

I have been struggling to change my eating habits.
People kept calling me "beef" which is a nickname of an acquaintance from real life.
I felt weird about the title "top poster."
I saw your warning post back in the winter that you were going to change your account.. and I'd even noted a few similarities between Beefitarian and Pop n Fresh, but still hadn't twigged.
Judging by your ability to change your posting style, I suspect you also have what it takes to to change eating habits. Habits are habits, right? (I know.. different reward structures for different habits)

I'm just pondering the exact point at which one ceases to be a "youngster" and becomes an "elder". It looks like it would be a fun club to be in, mostly consisting of hand-wringing and rueing the sad, pitiful state of 'dem kids today.
But it seems to always be something that the self-appointed "elders" decide.
Just kidding. Most of my crew are textbook Millennials. Zero personality, lost without their smartphones. It's painful to see the astonishing lack of ability to think critically and more terrifying, lack of awareness and concern of that fact. The next couple generations are truly screwed.
As an aside to gas prices - just got back from a GVA trip. (Sorry bmc, always forget to drop you a line! arrgh.) Man what a beautiful city and the arrival takes you right past Mont Blanc. But Jye-EEEzuz what an expensive place. Gas is 1.85 CHF/litre, about $2.23 CAD/litre. Was trying to figure what it would cost to run Cat's rig on that. A burger and beer is about 27 CHF ($32.50 CAD). Makes Canuckistan seem almost cheap, Vancouver crackshacks and Toronto termite semis aside.
Ok back to the topic...uhhh....what were we talking about again?!

Topic about aviation posters 'not heard from in a while'.
(Weekend RV-ing East across the prairies looks like increasingly stronger headwinds still on Sunday esp towards southern MB/SK; leaving Alberta Monday probably better sailing/fuel-saving

Grey pubic hair. When your right-seater refersthe exact point at which one ceases to be a "youngster" and becomes an "elder"
to you as "Grey Bush", you are now an elder.
That's what we've got to work on.astonishing lack of ability to think critically

If you send a PM/email to Joe, and
ask him to change your userid to "Grey Bush",
and he does so, I will treat you to a beer
of any (and I do mean any) brand that
there is.

I do miss . and Doc. I didn't get on with them all that well, but I don't dispute they were very knowledgeable aviation people.
They were colorful people, I guess "are" colorful people. They had a low tolerance level for gobshites. So do I.
It's an interesting theory that Ilya Kuryakin is Doc. Unless Doc is trying to act the fool to throw us off, I think not.
I think people have to understand that there are "screen personas" on most forums, especially well read ones like this. These folks differ from their actual personalities. Sometimes, for reasons of work or friendships, people have to adopt these personas to post and some of them are quite imaginative and funny and make the forums better.
I don't know Doc although I know who he is, but I know a fair few who know Cat, and he ain't no screen persona. What you see is what you get.
Anyways, come back Doc and Cat.

Btw, who decides how and when you get to occupy the old/therefore wise group and the young/therefore clueless group? What's the criteria? I'm only 38 so I suspect I'm easily within the latter (my wife certainly agrees with the 'clueless' part
I'm not big on the touchy-feelies, either, but I agree that some folks can get a little insufferable at times. As I was told (and thought to myself) plenty of times: "just because you think something doesn't make it right". Not defending those that are clearly out in the left field bleachers, btw.
I must admit, though, I find some gumption is missing since old(er) fellers like Cat and Doc no longer contribute.

Re: Cat & Doc
All this talk about cockpits... Here's a tangential bit of information, but it may support the change that's occurred in the workplace over the past generation+. Prior to electronic strips, which are becoming commonplace in modern facilities (except, ironically, for the world's superpower), when a controller made a change to an a/c's flight plan, they would need to "cock" the strip to remind them to pass on that change to the next sector down the line. The story goes that this vernacular was simply too much for one (or more) individual(s) of the kinder, prettier persuasion. From what we're told, it's now known (or common practice to call it) as "angulating" the strip south of the border. I've never actually checked the veracity of the story, but if it's true, that's a gooder.
Edited to include more p.c. tact.
