I have to admit I didn't realize the hat was obligatory when flying gliders. I always wore one because it keeps the sun off my head and has a short brim so it doesn't interfere with the lookout overhead, something you tend to do a lot of gliding. The strange thing is that when I'm flying with the dress-up crowd (air cadets), I don't wear a hat as there's no need in those gliders.

My big worry now though is that when I'm cross country in a powered aircraft with a bubble canopy I wear the hat as well. Is this a no no?

I loved that part, lots of shade in the back of a 2-33. Can't see dick all, but we weren't doing much thermalling anyway.

It is not a no no, but the preferred thing to do is to unfold a map and hold it over your head (man I wish I had a picture!!!), not sure an Ipad with foreflight would work as well.

CS, love the pic, but can't say I see that too often on bikers driving down the highway. Usually they are wearing something rather more practical. But hey, if you think that is representative of what bikers wear, you're welcome to it.

I'm going bicycle riding with the kids. About to put my wallet and keys in a fanny pack.

oh Photofly , that photo creased me up. Glad I'm not the only one who has problems with those damn hoods not fitting my head.

I assume that's what you were doing? (I hope :) )

I'm still chuckling at that one!!
