Re: How old are you?
Currently twenty-one, will be twenty-two in about four months. I've had my CPL(A) since April of this year, and so far have had no luck with finding any form of gainful employment as a pilot. Working on completing my Class 4 Instructor Rating out of CYPK these days.
Re: How old are you?
32. Flying since I was 15. I've done some of this and that, still trying not to kill myself, or passengers on a daily basis.

What??? No "under 15" option? I am almost 9 years old, and one day I want to be a pilot!

So, at just over 200 votes so far, there's a significant bump at 56-60. I happen to be part of that group. I saw it earlier and figured it would average out with more votes but it's still there. Is there some reason for extra participation at that age or is it just a coincidence?

Here's another one in that group.New_PIC wrote:So, at just over 200 votes so far, there's a significant bump at 56-60. I happen to be part of that group. I'm 57 and flying since 1973.
Still loving every minute of it!

Turned 23 a few days ago. Started flying through cadets and just cracked the 3000hr mark.
Re: How old are you?

I suspect for many in this group it's a combination of reducing family expenses, peaking disposable income, and a desire to realize a long-term goal.New_PIC wrote:So, at just over 200 votes so far, there's a significant bump at 56-60. This is an excellent example of why you should step away from here or at least pause and close your eyes to sip a beverage.AOW wrote:What??? No "under 15" option? I am almost 9 years old, and one day I want to be a pilot!
I would like a longer explanation of this.

Just turn 64. Started flying at 17. First flying job at 20.
Re: How old are you?
I'll be 48 next week. I started flying in 1984 and have quit a few times. Dave when you said "aviation is a disease, you'll be bock" you were right

Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......

Re: How old are you?
It would probably be a short explanation. My guess is he started logging hours at 14 in gliders, probably got a PPL at 17 and towed for a few seasons, then CPL a year or two later and managed to do 500-1000 hours a year since. Rare, but doable even with a year of ramp thrown in.Pop n Fresh wrote:

Re: How old are you?
I wouldn't think it'd be too difficult. I did a little over 4000 hours in my first 5 years of working. In that time there was one 18 month gig where I only flew about 500 hours. The other 3500 were done in 3.5 years. Even if this guys didn't have a single hour when he graduated high school he could have still done a 2 year college program, graduated at 19 with 250 hours and still had 3 years and 5 months to his 23rd birthday to acquire the other 2750 hours. That's only averaging 805 hours a year.Pop n Fresh wrote:This is an excellent example of why you should step away from here or at least pause and close your eyes to sip a beverage.AOW wrote:What??? I have been very fortunate. A lot of right place right time. I started instructing at 19 logged about 400 hours in a year. Started flying the 1900 at 20, two years in the right seat and have been a captain for a couple months now. Punching around 1000 hours a year on the 1900.Pop n Fresh wrote:This is an excellent example of why you should step away from here or at least pause and close your eyes to sip a beverage.AOW wrote:What??? Very nice. If I was capable of jealousy, I would have some over that. Keep up the good work.ant_321 wrote:I have been very fortunate. A lot of right place right time. I briefly hung out with a guy at the Calgary flying club while doing my PPL. He did his CPL immediately after his PPL, then got a job from his Dad's friend, inspecting pipelines with a Cardinal. Racked up a few hundred hours pretty quick. Nice guy too. If I were smarter I would have tried to tag along.
This year I'm more zen about it and figure I probably should not have been a CPL for some reason. Thinking of flying again though. I really should study for the CPL written or something, just to see if my brain actually works. There is a fair chance I broke it.

In this biz for 24 years.
Still learning new $h!t every day.
I'm glad I didn't ever apply to the majors in my 20's....I would have been bored by now.
