"Wet"
I guess my post was begging that reply...
Take a stab in the broad Indian Ocean 1,000 K to the west of Perth.
My question is, Would the Sea Conditions have allowed a ditching that would
have had a probability of the entire aircraft sinking without spreading debris.
I'll assume that in such a scenario, the engines would come off.
Then, the question becomes, if it landed intact like that, would there be any debris
and would it stay that way to the bottom or break up and then would there be
any likelihood of finding debris.

Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
Sea conditions are reported as being 3 - 6 meters. (currently)
There are always swells. Your not going to find a glassy surfaced perfectly flat ocean. The likleyhood of an intact ditching is remote in the best of cases. Besides - being that far out - Why would anyone want to make a safe ditching? There is debris......we just need to find it in all the currents. I wouldn't be suprised if a year fram now stuff starts washing up in Austrailia.

On the phone? If CNN had video of that, it might help their ratings...bizjets101 wrote:

There is absolutely NO proof these guys are even searching the correct bloody ocean!

And even more shocking, no proof they *aren't* searching the right ocean... Oh, sorry, did I bump your tinfoil hat?

Well isn't that just great, so it was just a regular sign off...too bad the Malaysian authorities and media have already pushed forward the narrative of rouge/suicidal pilot.bizjets101 wrote:

Now we will hear that the file that was "deleted" from his flight sim computer was just an old airplane texture add-on for FSX lol.
Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
That was made into a point of contention early on ... just don't quite get that the slight difference in dialogue made a difference to that type of speculation.smokescreen_wshh wrote:Well isn't that just great, so it was just a regular sign off...

I personally can't even watch the news anymore. I am sick of the reporters asking the same dumb questions over and over and over. Let alone all those getting their 2 minutes of fame trying to speculate and answer the dumb questions. Really what the hell does it matter they said good night. Personally say it all the time my bad.
Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
To bad they didn't use the old smart ass sign off of C U Next Time. Watching the talking heads on CNN explain that would be interesting!

^ I doubt it.
If they didn't get 'Wai Tu Lo' and 'Bang Ding Au', then there's no way they are going to catch the subtlety of 'See You Next Time'..

I was expecting a "WE FOUND THE PLANE!" announcement from the Malaysian government this morning, followed a few hours later by "April Fools!". That's the kind of shat show this has become.

Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
I'm sorry to bring this up if it's already been discussed, but since the subject of the Captain's homemade simulator has come up again a couple of posts back, can anybody tell me just what in the world people imagine a PC-based flight simulator in a guy's basement could possibly have to teach a guy of his experience level? Is there anything at all that he would need to practice in order to carry out some imaginary nefarious plan that could possibly be simulated on this kind of equipment?
I wish idiotic media would stop bringing up the goddamned simulator. It would be like me playing super mario over and over again in order to practice stealing gold coins.

Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
I just naturally assumed that the majority of pilots had a flight yoke, rudder and throttle setup at home to go with Microsoft Flight Simulator 95+.
Evidently the media (uninformed) thinks this is abnormal. His "home simulator" consisted of a Saitek yoke and throttle which is used by 95% of us simmers.
Looks like there was 'nothing sinister' found on his computer - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ptain.html
This was his home setup.

He also flew model aircraft. It sounds like the guy just loved flying.
Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
in all this media nonsense what I find disappointing is that there is a lack of knowledgeable pilots (guys like Sully or similar) who are willing to step up and speak to media. Or is media not interested in hearing from them....because it allows the news reporters to post and at the same time answer dumb questions related to MH370.

CNN had Sully several times, and many like him in their endless 24 hour coverage!!

Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
Don't know, but most wouldn't have expected after all the search efforts not to find hide nor hair of the aircraft, lost off its regular route, and no evidence to go on for investigators. The usual expected procedure has been for pilots (encouraged not to speculate) to wait and let an accident investigation take its course after the accident site is found.Mig29 wrote:Or is media not interested in hearing from them....
Now that the search has so far come up empty, friends start to ask my perspective ... what ...the news media has somehow failed them / us and now my opinion matters ?
Quite something to see such great coverage about nothing found. Pilots know to avoid speculation, instead are encouraged to read actual reports to discover new ideas about accident causes. With the bleak outlook of finding MH370 it looks like (Mig29 TM) investigators may have to resort to lining up some reasonable theories and poll the (pilot) audience.

Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
This is a far bigger problem than most realize and a double edged sword...
But the media has a real tough time (as do I) trying to get pilots (in particular) to comment on aviation incidents.
I get that guys are gun shy because the media does get things wrong, out of context etc. But when there is no one to comment they are going to make even bigger problems and wilder guesses.
It would be a great idea on AvCanada (or anywhere) to have a contact list of aviation people that would be willing to comment and stop a lot of misinformation before it starts.
In my highly biased personal opinion
Here locally I get calls in the Museum looking for comment and where it makes sense I do...Mig29 wrote:in all this media nonsense what I find disappointing is that there is a lack of knowledgeable pilots (guys like Sully or similar) who are willing to step up and speak to media. Was this a bad April Fools joke (aired yesterday), or are they bigger idiots than we all thought?
