I saw that Keebird movie, wasn't the aircraft destroyed because the APU, left running, caught on fire while they were taxiing for takeoff? How exactly did the Twin Otter pilots in resolute bay foresee this? Can I phone them and get my future told too?

Thanks for that, Sheephunter. Now I really have got the bug. Are you still up there doing that? I will be up there in mid August and will be doing some moose hunting, and maybe some caribou too....if we can find some.

That truly is God's country up there. Keep posting pics.

ybp... now that doesn't look like a whole lot of fun. Not out that way much anymore. This time next week will be in northern Quebec. Good luck on the hunt. Moose shouldn't be a problem but caribou can be little elusive at times.

Definetly looks stuck. You guys carry around spare tundra tires, or did you get some flow in? (Tire on the right)

It happened a few weeks ago north of YXJ.

That is what happens when you land on a winter strip in the summer.

We dug it out, winched it to harder ground, then put tundra tires on it and flew it out. The only damage was rock damage to one prop blade and a rock chip in the front passenger window. Very fortunate, but an interesting day to say the least. :D (For me anyways...got me out of the hangar!!!)

bccubguy, no it belonged to me at that time. After that I sold it to someone that I think was from Grande Prairie but not sure of his name. This is how the bear got in. He went out the cargo door but not before he chewed up the seats and tore out the bulk head and went right through to the back of the tail.

Ok,

An airplane.... Sifton Air's Islander landing at Plata, Yukon.

Let's just say I'm only posting the pic because I managed to corrupt one more fixed winger.... Only about 30sec in the 500 ;-)

STL, When I was kid, I used to fly into Plata back in the early 90's with my dad, when some friends of ours trapped out of there in the winter. One year we dropped them off about mid November and their cabin had flooded then froze with about 2 feet of water in it. We had to use a chainsaw to cut the door in half so we could open it. Then we discovered that a grizzly had lived in there periodically throughout the summer.

Needless to say, no one slept very good that first night.

What is going on out there now? Just hunting or is there still some mining going on out there?

STL, if you ever come across the need for a new set of covers for the 500 I have a set that I think was used once. Nice photos, everyone. Heading to Kuujjuaq or thereabouts sometime over the weekend. Bit of a low been sitting around Chibougamau & Matagami. Looks like I might get out of here Sunday. Have a great summer. I'll try to get some new photos, but not much to compare with "The Cirque".

bezerker,

Those pix on the way down to Dry Bay? That time of year I guess. Where's the last shot? That's quite a peak.

Glad you liked the website, there's still a few changes to come, just got it up yesterday.

Ybp,

There's lots going on at Plata these days, big drill program about 5nm North of the strip, where I am now actually. We've got two drills in here, both skid jobs though, so not much going on for me at the moment, but they had a fly drill in here earlier in the year as well. I slung a camp in yesterday about 9nm MW of the strip, small exploration project, they'll only be there two weeks. There's a been a couple Astars flying the Mag Birds around as well, the S-61 was here slinging a Cat and an Excavator in here as well....

I think the Alcan and Sifton guys are staying busy bringing bits and pieces in, fuel etc.

Sheephunter,

I don't think we need any, but I'll keep my ears open for you.
