Nope, it wasn't and my bad that my post came off that way. I was just concurring with xsbank about how we shouldn't be looking down our noses at each other. We're all a part of the same watch and just as equally important to its function.
sepia wrote:I believe the point raised was the ease of replacing a group. There are companies like Swissport or Globeground that could replace ground handling services at a lower cost, with arguably the same or better service. What does ACGHS bring to AC that an outside company couldn't? If AC is paying a premium what are they getting for it?
Honestly? I'm of the opinion that there isn't anything we bring to the operation that Swissport or GlobeGround couldn't do for us. There needs to be a radical overhaul of how the ramp operates. Every incentive to making a career of being a station attendant needs to be eliminated and replaced with incentives to either move up within the company or move on.

Great post. I think we totally agree on the issue. I think it's going to be very painful for ACGHS to institute the kind of changes that are needed to bring their price vs quality of service back in line with other companies which are offering the same services. Needless to say, it's going to be an interesting summer for everyone.

from CIBC world markets:

Implications Of An Air Canada CCAA
Filing Or Strike
We believe the appointment of Calin Rovinescu as Air Canada's CEO does
not signal an impending CCAA filing for the airline or that a strike by
employees is a given. However, given the significant speculation
surrounding the issue, we wanted to review possible implications.
We expect in the event of a CCAA filing, similar to a number of the U.S.
airlines filing Chapter 11 and the 2003 filing, Air Canada would continue to
operate while financial and legal issues are resolved; we believe any strike
action would be short-lived.
In a CCAA filing, Jazz faces the prospect of the CPA reopening, however,
given the substantial amount of capacity and other services Jazz provides,
we do not believe it could be replaced. We expect Jazz would be open to
discussions including financial support to avoid a filing.
Either a CCAA filing or strike would be negative for WestJet. While the
company would be able to generate additional traffic, we believe there could
be significant damage to the company's brand and reputation. A
restructured Air Canada could also become a more formidable competitor.

The real issue is what level of service is being provided, a look at the equipment says it all. The only players are those that have been around for awhile with infrastructure in decline or upstarts with a mixture of a few new but mostly old equipment trying to deliver for cheaper. Even the airports cannot maintain facilities because they have limited staff and are forced to sub contact out. Everybody is being squeezed with the picture in Canada looking better than in the States only because the turn in the game came to us later than down there. Unfortunately that level playing field where we are all headed will be determined by the company that can extract the most for the least with little regard for any of its employees. Too bad most of us like what we do.

Anyone know of Calin received a severance package for leaving the company a few years back?

Wonder if he'll have to pay that back seeing how he's back and working again.

HAHA, now thats the way to lighten up a topic.

Bottom line here is that everyone needs to come together, Mainline and Jazz this year. Its not going to be easy but has to be done, The mainline drivers(ACPA) should work and talk with ALPA when it comes to negotiations.

If need be, first they walk, just as there getting ready to go back, Jazz walks. It'll slow the airline down so frickin much. (Now thats drastic but we need to stick together. And get rid of the me first and only attitude.
