Very interesting. I'm always interested in reading another's informed opinion.
I do however, stand by the analogy. The point you make is well thought out, with one basic flaw, their primary concern was to win the war. As it went on, and became more and more dire, the cost became "at any". Even at the cost of the loss of "oversight" and possibly that of direct control.
Has transport not "lost direct control"?
Are the northern operators not operating with impunity?
The industry needs to be changed to where winning the war, making profit, comes a distant second to saving lives and safety.
This cannot be done without direct oversight control, by those that have no interest in profit.
We all know that it can't be done by the solders, we're the ones getting pushed out of the trenches.
