Interestingly enough, even though Air North " Chose not to optimize their assets to generate best returns for their shareholders", they remained profitable in 2012. For a small company in a market of reckless overcapacity, that speaks volumes to the local support.

Which successful medium-sized airline are you running there Realitychex?Realitychex wrote: There's absolutely nothing stopping Air North from optimizing their assets to generate the best returns for their shareholders. It's not WJ's fault Air North has chosen not to do so.
Perhaps JT should bring you on as a consultant.

According to you, Air North was profitable in 2012.C1-17 wrote:Interestingly enough, even though Air North " Chose not to optimize their assets to generate best returns for their shareholders", they remained profitable in 2012. Barring unforeseen circumstances over the last 2 weeks of the year, WJ will be extremely profitable in 2012.
WJ leads all North American airlines in l/f growth through the first 11 months of 2012 and remains one of the most profitable airlines in the hemisphere.
So forgive me if I'm a little confused. Where was this "reckless over capacity" you refer to?
In any event, according to you, both Air North and WestJet were profitable in 2012.
What's the problem?

Re: WestJet announces Whitehorse
L/F growth is misleading. It's easy to fill an airplane if you price it low enough. Having a LF higher than your break even load factor is the more impressive measure. I'm being pendantic here.Realitychex wrote:

...yet WestJet's operating margin through the first 9 months of 2012, which includes virtually all the period when WJ operated its summer seasonal YXY service, was 11% vs 8.6% in the same period of 2011.bmc wrote:L/F growth is misleading. Loads increased from 80.1% to 83.1%
Where was all this additional "reckless capacity"?
You say Air North was profitable over the period. WJ's financials clearly indicate their year over year profitability significantly improved during the period of time when YXY was in the network.
So again, I have to ask: What's the problem?

Ya, three times.Realitychex wrote:

My original question was, are you guys still allowed to post? I'll clarify, there was spirited posting and company support on two sides of the fence prior to April, then the media campaign intensified in Whitehorse and this topic went dead. A few inquiries were made with no response. I was curious if employees were directed to stop posting?
I don't work for the most profitable airline in the entire hemisphere like you, which made me wonder why "The Big Guys" would bother telling a few employees not to post on a website when they are just about to start service in a community thats only serviced by a troubled mainline carrier and a little local airline.
I assume your an employee, so I suppose my question is somewhat answered. Looks like your free to post.
The only reason I pointed out Air North's profitability was in response to your statement -
"There's absolutely nothing stopping Air North from optimizing their assets to generate the best returns for their shareholders. It's not WJ's fault Air North has chosen not to do so."
Anyways, good chat, I'm out.

The lack of posts may be due to lack of interest.C1-17 wrote:My original question was, are you guys still allowed to post?Realitychex wrote:

WJ's YXY service in 3Q 2012 represented about .4% of their total ASM production.
For the record, I never put much stock into to privately held airlines that claim to be profitable. There's nothing like an audited P & L to establish the veracity of the claim.
