Beef, hope you're having a good time. I'm not going to make it this year so I'm majorly bummed. :( :(

Don't know if you've done it yet, but make sure to drop by the International tent. It's over near the trade show area. They will have info on the Canadian EAA event where they host a get together for us where they provide free ice cream and non-alcoholic beverages. Also sign up for the International dinner. It's a very good time over in the Poborezny Centre (?) and you'll get to meet all sorts of interesting folks from around the world. The beer isn't free, but it's very reasonable and there's lots of fun to be had.

Enjoy, you lucky bugger!

Beefitarian's ofishul Oshkosh report 2012
  • It's warm
  • the wifi is free but you get what you pay for
  • I'm overwhelmed in a great way
  • there's airplanes and lots of 'em!
  • It's still warm
I found fleet16b he seems like a good guy even though he drives a Nissan. He hates me because I'm thinking of building an old looking bi-plane and wearing my DavidClark headset when I fly it, plus I'm dyslexic. He still offered me beer but has not read this yet.

I also met Robert Baslee, he is a super nice guy and I feel bad for bothering him not bad enough to stop but mildly remorsefull. He gave met a great ball cap. So I bought him an ice cream.

Fleet misses you. I am asking for a partial refund. You were one of the attractions I was looking forward to. Now I have to settle for a guy named Bob Hovert or something. He looks old.

Good thing I am not there or I would wash out your mouth with gunwash for uttering such a sacrilegious statement

Enjoy; it is the greatest aviation show on earth.

Interesting factoid. It is apparently the only regularly scheduled event of it s size in the USA that does not have armed security......

There's side arms around but yeah, the volunteer security people seem pretty Canadian. I keep meeting people like Robert Baslee and Fleet16b's buddies, that when you meet them you pull up a chair and you're all pilots hanging out.

That is part of why everyone loves Bob Hover who to be honest I never really heard of before hanging out here. He was allways just a pilot if you have a chance to talk to him.

Not sure why you would need security at OSH, except
to chase Patty off the runway at night

Reminds me - a friend of mine just went on a rifle shooting
course - in the USA, don't panic. He noticed a guy carefully
locking his car beside the range. He asked him why he felt
he needed to do that, with a dozen guys with high-powered
rifles nearby!

Bob Hoover is aviation's equivalent of Eric Clapton. I'm
just sorry that the youngsters never got the chance to
see him fly in the airshow. And what a nice guy.

As reported Beef has found our camp and has figured out our happy hour routine
A goodman but he has some obsession with modern headgear and old aircraft
It may take a few more beers and some intervention to make him see the light
Overall a good show happening but mighty hot for a boy from the GWN
Well harpy hour awaits........ I bet just now Beef is trying to figure out how to ditch his family for an hour........ For a third day in a row

Fleet 16b OUT !

It's not too tough to lose them in the warm humidity.

Bob H spoke at the start of the show yesterday.

I watched Dick talk about voyager today. That was pretty cool. The kids did not like it as much.

I'm guessing last year was the autocar gathering. We saw one parked in the museum but I'd like to see one fly.

Also made it down, and have been taking tons of photos! Still feels like I've barely seen half of it though!

We got here ontuesday. Thoroughly overwhelmed! We are way out back, elm and 4 th, popup with cdn flag and blue jeep. Failed to find lotto, or his plane. Looking for fleet today, and beef if I can find him.
Today, more trade stands and watching the airs show from the cub parking.

Now working on permission to come next year!

Fleet has departed for home. I missed catching breakfast with his gang this morning to say good bye.

I was capturing video of the talk then the camera died. Good thing j made it. My pictures are pretty lacking.

I'm running out of energy. I've surprised myself with how active I have managed to be but the days are short, making the week long.

It was great meeting you and sharing your first Oshkosh experience.
Had a good drive home in spite of all the thunder storms encountered.
Hope you guys have a safe flight home and maybe you can make it back again next year.

Thanks to Beef for stopping by last night, great to meet you and apologies we were in the middle of supper! The way my feet have been I was not going anywhere to find people last night. Fleet, well I'll just have to stop by Guelph to say hi, 15 minutes is a bit closer than Wisconsin!
Last full day here, having a blast. Shopping for Canada day! Heading home early tomorrow with a full camera and a fuller memory bank. I've met many great people (not bad for an introverted Engineer), learned a lot, seen some great pilots fly. Cannot wait to come back again...next time with a bicycle!

That should give you some idea how nice jump154 is. Some jerk poking his nose against the screen while he's eating supper and he apologizes.

Mrs 154 also pleasant while my dog yells at her for saying hi. Plus she likes airplanes!

The bike helps but I've switched to bus.

My feet are not too sore. I'm ready for bed and some how dodged sun burn. I may have a better tan than I have ever brought home from Hawwaii.

Wait, did I win a plane? Nice to meet you and your group too. I can't imagine talking the wife into this again but I was surprised this time. She keeps saying, "Next time we need to..." so who knows.

I'm sorry I didn't follow the thread while I was on the field at KOSH.

I'm home now after the long (16hr) flight in the J3 over the Sault on the way there and a two day weather delay in Waukegan on the way back (they have a big mall).

Thanks to fleet for the help and the hospitality. What an amazing trip. Added 26.8 hours to my total PIC time which rounds my total hours to just over 150.

364 days to Airventure 2013?

Back home - great trip 13 hours straight through. Would have been a great day to fly, blue skies all the way. You know you had a good time when you are sad to leave, even the showers.

Awesome night airshow last night, and superb fireworks. As I said before, totally overwhelmed but had a blast. Missed too much stuff, never got to the ultralights (but did spend most evenings watching them do circuits over my trailer). Didn't get to the seaplane base. Just downloading 1376 pictures (thank god for digital cameras), spend surprisingly little money at the event - food is very reasonably priced unlike other commercial attractions I have been to. Have got some things lined up to spend money on, lots of time checking out electroncis and trying on headsets - but I do have an expanded collection of chintzy flying T-Shirts!

Glad I met Beef, sad I missed Lotro and Fleet, pity Colonel Sanders could not make it as I had some tea and crumpets especially for him :) Have to fly up to Smith's Falls to deliver them.

Feet - guess what? Walked too far the first day, then had to look after blisters the next 2 - got better for last 2 days now I want to walk everywhere (will help in my wieght loss quests before next year's medical). Sunburn - I was a good boy, put sunblock on every morning. My daughter of course informed me frequently during the day that I needed to put more on, but nothing hurts too much now so must have been enough (damn goopy stuff).

Best thing - after listening to seminars and watching the air shows, I now have soem clear goals in flying - I've come away truly inspired to make myself a better Pilot, enough to keep me busy (and broke) for a good few years yet.

So, amazing show, huge trade show, made some new friends that hopefully I'll see again, found some inspiration and DON'T want to go back to work tomorrow! What vacations should be all about. When will I go again? Not sure, but I will be back.

We're at Mankato Mn. No I've never heard of it. The google says we're 8 hours 15 minutes from going to look at Rushmore from the ground, it's fun to see from the air but looks tiny because you have to stay 2000' away from it.

Hope every one is doing well.

I missed tea & crumpets?! Pity, but I simply couldn't go. The Federal
Government of Canada formally requested an appearance by me.
Have to fly up to Smith's Falls to deliver them
Anytime! Let me know and I will put the BBQ on.

We're in Murdo South Dakota. Stopping for some plug in camping it's 34C time to run the AC.

I'll quit spamming up the place as we're going to take the kids to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc.

Thanks for hanging out everyone. I didn't know there were crumpets. :(
