WestJet started flying on Feb 29 1996. The hiring process started in October 1995 about 5 months prior.
Encore's first revenue flight will likely be no earlier than June 2013. That should assist those wondering how the timelines will likely work.
It'll be interesting to see when WJ commits to a Q400 Simulator. As I recall there's a vacant sim bay at WJ's HQ.
They'll want one when there are 20 Q400's in the fleet, and I would imagine there's at least an 18 month lead time to acquire a sim.

Thanks guys. I read Dave's post. The previous poster referred to missing a specific posting in early October because of improperly setup job alerts. Just wanted to make sure I'm not in the same boat.

Depends on where Encore HQ is situated.Realitychex wrote:WestJet started flying on Feb 29 1996. The hiring process started in October 1995 about 5 months prior.

My guess would be the "big smoke" aka YYZ land...
Re: 'Regional' Flight Crew Selection - What are you looking
Looks like my guess for the HQ location was the wrong end of the country....
Anything new on when the job posting will be up and the WAWCON at Encore ? Its now well into Q4, and other than a name and an HQ announcement nothing else has been available....

FWIW, the location of the head office has nothing to do with were they will start flying out of first.

for god sakes don't make whores out of pilots with low wages. As the acronym goes, you get what you pay for!

I believe that if people are trying to tell my Company and my colleagues what to do that we're doing something right. By your definition, I "whored" myself out some 13 years ago. You're right, you get what you pay for. Solid husband and father. Solid employee. Solid coworker. Solid friend to many.AirMail wrote:for god sakes don't make whores out of pilots with low wages. Such a whore I am.
Re: 'Regional' Flight Crew Selection - What are you looking
A question for DaveP or anyone in the know. Am I on the right track? I want to join the WestJet team. Whether it's in 6 months, a year or more doesn't concern me but I do want to make sure the decisions I'm making now are leading me towards my goal. I'm currently a FO on a transport category turboprop. A Capt. position is likely 4 yrs away. One of my main concerns is a lack of Multi PIC (about 100hrs). So I'm wondering if I would be best to stay where I am, try to move back to a 703/704 Multi PIC job, or work towards a jet type rating with Air Canada/Sunwing or similar? Here's a brief summary of my experience:
ATPL
3,500 TT
600 Transport Category Turboprop
1,200 PIC (100 Multi, Remainder Single Turbine IFR)
2,000 Multi
1,200 IFR
Aviation Bachelor's Degree
Also, are there many former Air Canada pilots hired by WestJet?
Thanks very much!

Also there are those waiting to hear about Flight Attendant postings with Regional? Once pilots are hired the FA's shouldn't be far behind? Will WJ look internal first or post publicly right from the start???

WJHopefull,
Your experience and attitude seems to be in line with the type of candidate that Encore is trying to attract as a direct entry Captain.
