Well, i have flown several gliders with carbon fibre spars and no cf spar has ever failed in a glider. The aircraft are flown at Va a lot of the time and are subjected to repeated high aoa pullups, lots of flexing from long wingspans and repeatedly changing flap setting, etc.
I have seen a huge lineup of them sitting in 45°C for several hours, no issues. However long term wise the wings and tails are removed at the end of each day and they are stored in a box. Fibreglass and gelcoat do not stand up well to weather.
Are you thinking of that single seater made in the US with the elliptical wing? Can't remember the name.
Hey Juicy, There is a Giles in YRL. He runs it flatout 5- 10 times a week. He would be able to shed some light on operating costs. Low TBO's, and lots of inspections, very durable airframe. I would say it is cost prohibitive if you are looking for a joyrider! The giles is a serious machine=$$$$$$$
PM if you want more info. Fluck
