Re: Remember to reboot your dreamliner every 8 months.
Do they teach journalists how to be idiots in school or is it part of the entrance requirements?
Re: Remember to reboot your dreamliner every 8 months.
I wouldn't want to fly on an aircraft that was never powered down since 248 days

Re: Remember to reboot your dreamliner every 8 months.
No I think being a fear mongering moron is taught directly in Journalism school.

I also heard that the engines on that thing will automatically shut down if it is left running until the fuel runs out. What a piece of crap.
That has to be the stupidest aviation article I have ever read in my entire life.

The Brazilian beast I used to (currently?) fly required an electrical reset every 50 hours. There was a countdown clock on the status page.
It would be quite common to see it in the teens.
Mr Griffin, being a tech reporter, doesn't know much about electricity.

CNN got in on the stupidly too.
http://edition.cnn.com/2015/05/02/us/bo ... directive/
But in true US propaganda form, it was only a headline story for a few hours. But...the story about Malaysian Airlines dumping the A380 has more staying power as a headline.

What does an electrical reset actually entail on these machines?Nark wrote:The Brazilian beast I used to (currently?) fly required an electrical reset every 50 hours.
On the 787, what does the one hour to "accomplish electrical power deactivation on the airplane,
in accordance with step 2) in “DESIRED ACTION” of Boeing Multi Operator Message MOM-MOM-15-0248-01B " involve?
I take it it's more than simply masters off?
Re: Remember to reboot your dreamliner every 8 months.
They're not talking about the engines running for 8 months, just electrical power. It's apparently perfectly normal for 787s to be powered up for months at a time, although it seems unlikely they'd get to 8 months without having some kind of scheduled maintenance that would involve a power cycle.Meatservo wrote:I also heard that the engines on that thing will automatically shut down if it is left running until the fuel runs out. GyvAir,
It just requires you to remove AC power from the system. So shut off engines and APU without ground power. The idea is that the system needs to do a "Built In Test" or BIT.
Now as Cpn Crunch alluded to, it's very common to have an Aircraft with constant AC power, be it from internal sources (gens /APU) or ground power like when we're parked at the gate.
So this is why the timer is constantly running between BIT's.

Sorry guys, my lowly engineering degree is causing me to overthink this.

I think they just did what they should have done before the plane even flew, i.e. reviewed and validated the source code properly. Apparently there are 4 million lines of code.davecessna wrote:Sorry guys, my lowly engineering degree is causing me to overthink this.

E-z-p-z, we outsource most of our code checking to Indian low cost centers anyways.CpnCrunch wrote:I think they just did what they should have done before the plane even flew, i.e. reviewed and validated the source code properly. Apparently there are 4 million lines of code.
