Re: Airline stock.
Taking investment advice from a random/anonymous "expert". Classic smart move!

Re: Airline stock.
My advice is, if you're an airline pilot, avoid airline stock. When it tanks is when you get furloughed.
The worst sort of business is one that grows rapidly, requires significant capital to engender the growth, and then earns little or no money. Think airlines. Here a durable competitive advantage has proven elusive ever since the days of the Wright Brothers. Indeed, if a farsighted capitalist had been present at Kitty Hawk, he would have done his successors a huge favor by shooting Orville down.

Didn't Buffet's company buy Flightsafety and also ordered just under 10 billion dollars worth of private jets a few years ago?petey wrote:The worst sort of business is one that grows rapidly, requires significant capital to engender the growth, and then earns little or no money. Re: Airline stock.
Sure did. Gambit on a low market value, counting on the upswing. Easy moves to purchase at a low value when you have giant capital and reserves. FlightSafety was a good investment, not sure about the Imperial fleet of jets though......sanjet wrote:

Yes, but neither of those are airlines which the quote refers to. Training and fractional ownership.Didn't Buffet's company buy Flightsafety and also ordered just under 10 billion dollars worth of private jets a few years ago?

Re: Airline stock.
I have invested in airline stock and have made quite a lot of money. Only once did my profit drop deep into even a significant loss, but I knew it would rebound and patiently waited, not more than a few weeks later, pay dirt. I have bought and sold several times and have done quite well. Remember, you haven't lost or profited for that matter, until you sell. I got two good friends with MUCH more money into the same stock and they both made small fortunes (they are doctors so they have a lot more money to invest than myself lol).
The stock was Air Canada and the investment period was over a year.
Hope that gives you some hope.

Re: Airline stock.
Yeah unless say they go bankrupt and your shares are worth nothing, or say they take years to come back to the price that you bought them at and your capital is tied up returning you zero. No such thing as a paper loss..the money is gone from your account. You might get lucky holding onto a loser..you might also not.flying4dollars wrote:I have invested in airline stock and have made quite a lot of money. Airline stocks is where it's at now. I have made over $100,000 with AC stocks in 3 years.
Here's their stock graph for the past 5 years.
