Road trip job hunt,ATP
Hi
I plan on doing a road trip to Winnipeg,or Calgary,Edmonton and knock on doors for work,I applied to many companies and get no response,I don't mind to drive out and shake hands if it will increase my chances to get a job,I do notice on several job post it's mention NO PHONE CALLS.
My experience
FAA ATPL MEL
Canadian ATPL inst group 1
2800h TT
2600h PIC
1100 turbine PIC C208,PC12
101h twin,
For someone with my low twin hours,is it worth to knock on a BE200 operator door and hope for a FO job or better to focus on PA31 PIC jobs?I don't care what I fly,i just want a job.
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

I'm nowhere near your time but I can say from my road trip experience is most places welcome you and give you at least a few minutes of time. If you don't score a job on the trip you will get your resume noticed. Treat it as a pre interview. I am out in NWO you're welcome to drop by for a beer half way through your trip and I can share my perspective of good and bad companies. You learn a lot and quickly being up here about all the different operators.

I'll tell what I know about Manitoba. MedEvac flying there (which is a decent job in that province) requires a Captain to have 500 Multi PIC, the reason is the Manitoba Health requirement. They can issue a provisional license at around 450 but not much lower. SkyNorth (based in Winnipeg) does not have an airplane that will allow you to get that, so an FO position there would be somewhat of a dead end job. From what I have heard, Fast Air (main base also in Winnipeg) will allow a high time FO to be a Captain on charter flights to build time for a MedEvac position. Perimeter will rarely hire a direct entry pilot due to their ramp program. Keystone does not fly MedEvac, but their reputation is not great.
There recently was an ad for a Captain at Keewatin, main base also in Winnipeg, but they serve communities in the Eastern and Central Arctic. They fly MedEvacs in Nunavut so there is no 500 MPIC requirement and if I were in your place I would definitely apply and pursue that job(depending of course on your goals). The pay is not great, but they fly good machines (All BE20s with G1000), their training is very good, they have a pilot association, flight benefits and depending on which base you get you might be flown to that base at company's expense (they used to do that for Iqaluit, for Rankin and Churchill you had to get yourself to Winnipeg first but that might have changed).
What are your career goals? With your time getting a job at Jazz or Encore should not be a big issue if that's what you are looking for.

Sounds like the lack of multi time is what is hurting you. With that time you should be able to find a left seat Ho job. Heck, maybe even a left seat BE20. If you're lucky... maybe hired as right seat for a limited time on a BE20/BE02/SA227 to gain a few multi hours with the understanding that you would get fast tracked to the left. Your PC12 time may help with this.
Fast Air, Keewatin, Missinnipi, Sky Care, Keystone, Wasaya, Bearskin, Perimeter even... Those are the players I can think of in Manitoba/Ont.
As for Keystone, I met a new pilot flying with them a while back. Old timer with decades of experience flying the BE for them now. He seemed great, and from what I understand is helping turn the place around. They don't fly the PA's much anymore if at all. They liquidated one or two recently.

I would skip Calgary. Companies are laying off including Sunwest, Canadian North. Not sure about NCA... CMA is always looking but you need to be in Smithers. Haven't heard much from the smaller companies like Albatross etc....
One company that might be looking is BarXH/Integra but I think they are based in Lethbridge? Westwind might be worth while stopping by at as well out of Saskatoon.
Have you applied at Jazz and Encore? They DO hire guys with less hours than what you got.
Good luck.

I think Orca is looking for 99 and BE10 Captains.

His problem there is the multi time... HOWEVER I've seen some float guys get on with like no multi time. So really it's hard to say what they would do.Wacko wrote:

That's pretty scary if PC12NG did not get any calls with that amount of time. Especially these days where regionals and a few other companies are aggressively looking, despite the layoffs in Alta. Which makes me worry because I have way less experience....yet I have gotten a record 4 interview calls within a week and a half. Something that has never happened in my life before. May I ask where you were? I know a bunch of ex-collegues that do not have even close to that time and have gotten in to Skyregional/Jazz and Air Transat very recently: last week. So this situation pisses me off....and makes me worry at the same time. This would indicate that: either there isn't really that much hiring despite Jazz/Sunwing/Air Transat/SkyRegional (5 new planes next year) having several ground schools every month. Or either something is wrong with your resume...and how you convey your information. I knew people with half your time that had gotten in with no Multi Time at Porter.

It all seems to be a matter of timing. Using Porter as an example, I was just denied a chance to interview. While my TT isn't high (1800+1500 SO), with about 100 hours in the right seat of a transport category jet, it took all of 12 hours to be turned down.Sky_Conqueror wrote:That's pretty scary if PC12NG did not get any calls with that amount of time.
