Info on Webequie, CYWP

Post by Cap'n Tripps »

Hi all,

Anyone got any recent (within the last week or so) intel on the this strip? Will be doing some survey in and out in the next few days and just wondering as to condition of the strip, specifically, how loose is the gravel and how mushy is the apron? Any gotchas? Is there a terminal building of some sort, preferably with a phone and a bathroom?

Mostly though, how is the strip itself?

Thanks!

There is a bit of a slope to the runway that goes uphill if you are landing on 02. The trees are also quite tall on the approach for 02 so watch out for that. Other than that just know that there is going to be a crosswind a lot of the time. Due to the shape of the island the airport is built on the runway is oriented around 90 degrees to the prevailing winds.

Hi Strega,

Yep, was in a 'ho. The strip and ramp were fine, although I guess we could always do with more concrete pads.

Not sure how I would have closed my flight plan without having to borrow one of the residents cell phone though. For that matter, not sure how I would have gotten access to the terminal to use the facilities (still no pay phone) without assistance from another pilot who happened by at the time.

I get that it's northern and remote, and I possibly could have gotten someone on 126.7 from the ground to relay a message. The weather was pretty benign at the time, but there should be a way to allow for pilots to close a flight plan, pee and keep warm.

Just my view.
