Where are the fastest Dash-8 upgrades happening in Canada?
I've got an ATPL, 4600 hours TT, 4000 PIC on floats (SE VFR), and 500 hours in the right seat of a 705/POC Dash-8 300, and I would like to get into the left seat of a Dash-8 sooner than later, and unfortunately it isn't going to happen anytime soon at my existing company due to Contrails requirements.
Just wondering what the consensus is for where the fastest upgrade times are happening in Canada?
Maybe it's easier to just ask how long upgrades are taking at the likes of Encore, Jazz, Porter, PAL, or any of the other major Dash players in Canada?
Thanks in advance for everyone's time and input!

With that time I would say you got awhile.
Unfortunately, you only got 500 hours IFR, 500 multi crew, 500 multi, the list goes on.
If your looking at the airlines you will be a minimum of 2 years based on either seniority or the time matrix that encore and sky regional use.

Ya, I'm painfully aware of my lack of multi time, and my non-existent multi-PIC time... Ha ha!
What is the time matrix Encore or Sky Regional use?

The ONE -8 goes up maybe 2 times a month.... Yep that's the place to be.

Voyageur would be a quick upgrade for you.

Looks like you'd already meet the matrix requirements at Encore.
Expect about a year for an upgrade however with seniority.

Notwithstanding performance on the line/training, if all goes well, with your total time I would say 1 to 1.5 years. Most Q400 operators require some time on type for places like Encore or Skyregional, specially if little 705 experience,.

Voyageur and possibly Air Creebec.

Not sure exactly how it works, but it does take into account the individuals all around experience.180 wrote:

IE. If you have left seat time on a 705 machine, you will be ahead of a person with none.
Ask for more info from the Encore guys, they'll be able to explain it.
Good Luck

I would say Sky Regional. With the additional E175's coming they're upgrading FO's and moving Q captains to the Embraer. They're also losing pilots to the usual suspects and there will be losing more the Air Canada with the PML. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 12-18 months for the right person.
