High speed RTO
Found some interesting incidents on a recent TSB update. A few raised some interesting questions. For this incident, is a spoiler config warning included as an item for a high speed RTO by the manufacturer. The pilots did have a nice long runway in their favour so perhaps that was a consideration.
"C-GJZZ, a Jazz Aviation Lp Bombardier CL-600-2B19 (RJ100) operating as flight JZA8510 from
Edmonton Intl, AB (CYEG) to Winnipeg Intl, MB (CYWG), was on the take-off run when the crew
received a spoiler configuration warning and elected to reject the take-off. During the high energy
stop from 140 knots, the BRAKE OVERHEAT warning and BRAKE TEMPERATURE
MONITORING SYSTEM (BTMS) messages were displayed. The crew exited the runway and
requested ARFF; the brakes were cooled with fans. The aircraft was then repositioned to the gate
for normal passenger deplaning.
The operator’s maintenance completed the high energy stop inspection with no faults found. The
spoiler proximity sensor clearance check found the inboard side out of limits. Adjustments were
made and ground runs completed with no further indications."

Re: High speed RTO
I would imagine it's pretty hard to take off with a spoiler extended.
I don't know CRJs at all, or the possible causes of that warning. If they suspected a malfunctioning extended spoiler, then it's probably a good idea not to try and go flying. Rejecting from near V1 can be a pretty big deal, and I don't think they would make that decision lightly.

Re: High speed RTO
Flight control issues is one of the few reasons to reject at high speed.
Remember it's rejecting above V1 that is a killer. Unless something seriously bad has happened to your braking ability, a reject is a perfectly useful option right up to V1. That's why we have V1.

Re: High speed RTO
Just curious but does an airplane like a CRJ inhibit non critical warnings so you don't have to think if you hear / see a warning and you can just reject?
Re: High speed RTO
I've had one of those a few years ago. Got a"config spoiler" master warning and aural message. Rto was not a big deal from 130 ish knots. Remember both runways in yeg are over 10000 feet.
