Nice. Who's next: France ?
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Please, dear Gawd please, tell me that you DO know that Syrians do not speak a language called "Syrian"...
As far as the Chinese speaking English, it is one thing to decree "English will be spoken", the reality is the quality of English is also a factor. But in the years I've been flying in China, I have noticed a marked improvement in the communication. Now if only they could do something about their insanely constricted airspace...

There are 6 officially approved languages for ATC Communication (ICAO regulations).
- English
- Spanish
- Russian
- Chinese
- French
- Arabic
However English services must always be available alongside any of the other 5.
China is always interesting with their "Metric RVSM". You never know what to expect - you have to be ready for anything in China! The airspace outside the airway boundaries is all controlled by the military. The company I flew for had only 1 approved route to each destination in China - impossible to get approval to fly anything else.
A colleague was flying from Bangkok to Beijing and over China he was told that they wouldn't accept him at Beijing (weather). He told them that he'd like to proceed to the filed alternate. They refused to accept him there as well. He then told them he wanted to go to the second filed alternate. They wouldn't accept him there either!
He ended up landing in Shanghai.
I always took lots of extra fuel on any China flights.
I agree it's getting better - they still have a long way to go.

Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business
