Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Curious about something if anyone knows the answer....
How is the Jazz PML actually structured? Is the agreement just between AC and Jazz? Or AC and Jazz with a separate additional MOU agreement between Jazz and it's pilot union? Or is the agreement between a 3 way deal between AC, Jazz, and the Jazz union with all 3 signatures on one document?

Agreement between Jazz and ALPA (JAZ).sportingrifle wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 5:55 pm Curious about something if anyone knows the answer....

Jazz then takes these forward and they form part of the CPA between CHR and AC, or are undertakings made by AC.
Simply put - Jazz does not agree to anything with ALPA in this regard without AC concurrence in advance. Alternatively, ALPA can reach these agreements with Jazz (as part of normal course CBA renewal or an item included in a broader LOU) and make the entire tentative agreement conditional on the AC piece. No AC concurrence, entire deal (CBA TA or LOU) is void. Many of these tentative agreements are tied to CPA enhancements for AC.
No ACPA consent required as all current PML hires go BOTL reflecting their seniority number that flows out of their mainline PIT course. This is as per the language in the ACPA CBA that determines seniority. The only exception to this was the ‘reserved seniority’ feature of PML 1.0. It required ACPA consent (via LOU) and involved ACPA receiving other consideration from AC.
These ‘deals’ have facilitated the absorption of GGN and SKV operations in to Jazz in a seamless basis without any interruption of service as well as CPA enhancements that tilt towards AC. AC has benefited significantly. Preferred hiring has nearly zero economic cost.
AC needs Express operations to be staffed. Making 60% of the new-hire positions at AC exclusively sourced from Jazz helps to accomplish that objective. It ensures a pipeline of applicants to Jazz even though there are numerous other opportunities out there. None of them come with a guaranteed interview (within Jazz seniority) and a not-less-than 90% chance of getting hired.
AC can fall below 60% Jazz hiring (on an annualized basis) if there are insufficient qualified applicants from Jazz.
It is not a perfect arrangement. But it is what is in place for the next 13 years (subject to modification with mutual consent).

Yes. It's most if not all from the cancelled ground schools from 2020.
Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Do you know if they had to at least re-interview or were they given a pass based on the world falling apart two years ago?

No interview. The company appreciated that they had made sacrifices to come to Air Canada and letters were sent about a year ago to those involved honouring that commitment. Kudos to the Project Reroute folks for raising the issue with the company and for Murray Strom for ensuring the right thing was done.

Like I kinda agree to a point but alsosportingrifle wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:15 pm Kudos to the Project Reroute folks for raising the issue with the company and for Murray Strom for ensuring the right thing was done.
Murray is a manager through and through. And I'll leave my thoughts on project reroute for another day.
There should have never even been a question about these pilots in fact the real "right thing" to do would have been to follow through hiring them so they could have cheap benefits and the security of mind IN 2020 that they were on staff.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Has anyone heard of any GS dates after the one starting tomorrow (May23rd)?
Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Ok’ I’m gonna throw it out to the masses for some advice:
I am a 705 captain at a regional carrier, considering going to Jazz to get the long term goal of Air Canada. I meet the minimum hiring matrix for AC, but just barely so.
I think there a lot of unemployment overseas guys, along with many experiences guys from WJ, Teansat, you name it with their names in the pile that have loads more experience. But maybe I’m wrong?
Thoughts on staying put to see if AC calls, or get in line at Jazz (hopefully a quick upgrade) and get the call when it’s my turn.
2073 hours TT
990 two crew turbine time
1088 PIC with 392 twin pic, 233 of that is two crew pic.
