Would be interested to hear if carb ice is ruled out; as conditions were right for "serious" range (descent conditions). Reason for mention, there's one local injury incident due to carb ice that I know of within the last few years (south of the lake) not investigated and no synopsis available (never established as such in any narrative).

Walkerton in 2010, carb ice, same make AC ... same engine ...

N418CM, a Zenair 601XL aircraft, departed Brampton-Caledon, ON (CNC3) and had reached an
approximate altitude of 1000 feet AGL when the pilot lost control of the aircraft for undetermined
reasons. The aircraft crashed into a field just north of the airport. The pilot received minor injuries
and was taken to hospital. The aircraft was substantially damaged.
