Airline Cover Letter ?
Hello all,
When applying to an Airline, or a larger corporation, who would you address the cover letter to? Chief Pilot or HR?
E.g. Porter Airlines?

Address it to the person in charge of hiring, by NAME and title, not just title. And if possible have someone already working there deliver it in person.
If you address it to "The Chief Pilot" or "HR" you may as well just put "To Whom It May Concern". And then rest assured it will be considered a paper version of spam.
Most larger companies use an online application process anyway, so initial screening decisions are made by an algorithm not a person. But if something IS going to a real live person at least address it to them personally.

I’m still waiting for my white male privilege membership card. Must have gotten lost in the mail.

Re: Airline Cover Letter ?
If hiring managers find that this is an important detail when applying for a position, then why do so many companies leave out the contact name of the Chief pilot or HR manager when the position is posted in the first place?
Another pet peeve I have with job postings on AVCANADA are companies who post a job but do not include a company name, or base of operations in addition to leaving out the contact name. I have seen this several times on the job posting board. I get that some companies want a certain amount of privacy and confidentiality, but if Ahramin and Complexintentions are correct "(If you address it to "The Chief Pilot" or "HR" you may as well just put "To Whom It May Concern". And then rest assured it will be considered a paper version of spam)", then said companies are setting up applicants to fail right off the starting line. in Addition, 99% of the adds say no phone calls or you will be disqualified, so how does one get that information if it is not available online or if it is how do we know that the name listed is current?

To be clear, I wasn't saying address it to Chief Pilot. Address it to THE Chief Pilot. For larger companies though follow complex's advice.

Re: Airline Cover Letter ?
I think cover letters are stupid. It's obvious why you're sending your C.V., and it's also obvious that you're an illiterate retard if you can't figure out who to send it to. The only thing I can think of that might be good about a cover letter is that I can throw the ones with grammatical and spelling errors into the garbage without bothering to read the actual C.V. In this day and age I'd be more likely to read your C.V. if it came without a cover letter.
Of course, I work for a company where the chief pilot still reads the applications. I suppose if the H.R. department at a large unionized airline want to start their relationship with you by making you bounce a ball on your nose like a trained seal, that's what you'll have to do. Whatever.

If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself
