Border crossing questions

Post by gwagen »

Hi Guys

Trying to help computer illiterate friend. He's purchasing a plane in Saskatchewan.

Cheque sent today, he's hoping to fly out and pick it up, stop in Oshkosh on the way home to Ontario.

He's sent in today for the dtops decal.

Obviously he won't have a new registration from TC as that seems to take months to show up.

With the paperwork from the sale, will he be able to cross the border?

I helped him setup an eapis account and canpass previously. So that's looked after.

Thanks for any help/ advice!

I don't believe temporary registrations are valid across the border. Also don't forget to re-register the ELT if it's a 406.

He can always phone the US Customs post where he plans to land. Remember to ask for the officer's name and badge number as interpretations may vary between customs officers.

Might want to do the same for wherever he's returning to Canada.

Just reviewed the copa buying guide, also states that it's a no go to fly into us on temporary registration.

Oh well. Next year.

That is not true, you can fly to the USA on an interim certificate of registration from Canada.

Read the following link, note that a provisional C of R states Canadian airspace only, an interim does not.

https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/ ... t-5522.htm

I have made at least 3 trips across the border with my interim c of r with no issues.

You can not fly a US registered plane to Canada on a temporary registration though.

Thank you for this clarification!

Now to hope the seller has newer registration documents with the interim form attached.
