Just something I've been noticing more and more lately, especially in the employment section, but it seems many questions are being answered with "check your PMs".

This is a public forum, information should not be shared only in private. Your info potentially could help many more people then the one who asked the question, and prevents having the same question about the same companies repeatedly asked.

Some people don't feel like sharing some info publicly. Nothing wrong with that. Personally I agree, and also would never put my personal information in the Hire Me section including the names and phone numbers of my references.

Some companies prohibit employees from posting about them on public Forums - my company is one of them.

So any info on my company would be sent by PM to avoid me getting into trouble.

I agree in theory. I still read this forum after 17 years because of the general information that gets provided (it's certainly not for the witty banter) about different operators and the industry in general.

However, NOTHING on a message board is truly anonymous. Not only do some companies prohibit employees for making public posts, but anything that gets posted has the same legal ramifications as if it were printed in a newspaper. Not only can the poster get in legal trouble, but the owner of the board may be subject to the proceedings as well.

So, in reality, while I enjoy finding out information about the industry and people's opinions on various issues, there is only so much information that can be made public on forums like these.

Also, an unpopular opinion may be sent via PM to avoid starting a flame war.
