Pilot employers in Ottawa
Hello all,
My family situation may mean I'm a resident of Ottawa for the next decade, recently released from the military. I'm one course from wings but not trade qualified. If I want to keep flying as a career, then that leaves me contemplating finishing my ratings on my own dime. What I need to know though, before making the financial commitment, is where could I possibly work in Ottawa? Flight instructing may be an option but I don't think that will cover my living and support payments. I know of First Air and Transport Canada but I would only have about 300 hours. Are there other employers, who may not necessarily hire a low time CPL, but where I could make a decent long-term living while being able to be home 50% of the time?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Pilot employers in Ottawa
I think there's an aerial survey company based out of Ottawa. Not sure on a name but I also heard they higher low time pilots. Good luck!
Re: Pilot employers in Ottawa
For flight instruction there's OAS, OFC, and RFC.
Fugro and Sander Geophysics are both airborne survey companies. Sanders hasn't been hiring much lately, both are overseas rotations. Both will hire low time pilots.
Also for low time there is a skydive outfit in Gatineau.
Not sure if Cargojet still bases pilots there, but definitely higher time than entry level. There are a couple of exec jets there as well, but high time required.
First Air and Canadian North are airlines, but not much hiring there however. Low turnover, low growth, and mostly high time required.
Other than that NAV Canada and the NRC are based there but are very high time jobs. RCMP has some Pilatus's (Or Pilati?) there as well, medium and high time.
Porter currently has a pilot base as well.

Awesome insight, thank you! That gives me a lot of leads to follow.

Helicopter Transport Services in Carp have a Falcon 50 and BE350 in their fixed wing department.
Trapped in time, surrounded by evil, low on gas.
