What is the process to transfer per se to the YVR base? Just wait until openings?
Vacancies at bases get posted twice a year. You basically select your preferred base, position and equipment and once your seniority number allows that “choice” to happen, then you get a friendly email saying to pack your bags cuz you’re finally going home.

You could get awarded that position any time during the year, but the vacancies get posted twice a year. Do I know how long to get to YVR on any aircraft!? No.

Warning: jaZz especially and AC basically doing an aggressive pull back from west coast. Yyc base is virtually non existent and YVR suffering too. Many people forced to take temporary bases in the east. Which means juniors may find it longer to get back west

All depends on the base. The quick way out of reserve would be to get a spot in YYZ. Some YUL FO's have been on reserve for over a year.

Is there a pool nowadays? Or after completing the whole process you should get a GS date? for a FO position.

Most likely will happen quickly. Probably get about a month notice.

Are there normally more in a new classroom? What’s the size of your typical new hire GS?

They cannot get CA to leave YYC/YVR. Western CA attrition to AC is nominal. So attrition FO spots are filled to balance rosters.

If 10 western CA resigned tomorrow, then there would be less new-hire opportunities out west.

YVR is not the problem. When the dust settles, YVR will likely be the only western base.

AC pilot bases - YUL/YYZ/YVR (*YWG 50 pilots due to ACPPA)

Jazz pilot bases - YUL/YYZ/YVR

This is what Bill Bredt (Jazz COO seconded from AC) wanted in 2004.

New hires that were part of ALPA carriers before get first pick in order of date of hire at their previous carrier, then it’s random seniority draw…
