Got a question that I hope someone can answer. Just starting to do research.
I have an amateur built aircraft on floats with a Continental 0-470 K engine. I would like to put a McCauley D2A34C58-0. It is 86" long and is common on Cessna 185. Anyone know if this can be done? Don't need an STC because it is amateur built but would like to know if it is compatible. (one 5th order and one 6th order crank). McCauley doesn't want to give advice on amateur built aircraft.

Re: McCauley Propq
I'd be hesitant to put together an engine/prop (metal prop) combo that isn't "approved" or at least a common installation. Prop harmonics can cause nasty problems that nobody wants to find in flight.
If it hasn't been done before, and McCauley isn't willing to offer advice, I'd venture a guess and say nobody knows what will happen in service.

Re: McCauley Propq
Thanks for your answer. I agree with you but there are a lot of combinations out there that do work and nobody has gone to the trouble for approval because of costs involved. I'm not giving up yet but it has to fit and be compatible.
