Re: Minnow Pilot
Two questions!
1) WTF is a minnow pilot
B):)- Has anyone sent you a resume?
You created a profile, provide no details about you or your op, you essentially have zero credibility at this point!

Re: Minnow Pilot
A minnow pilot is someone who fly's into very small ponds and collects minnows from minnow traps.
That business has been around ever since I have been flying and normally they fly Piper Cubs.
It is a great way to build flying skills and generally pays well.
P.S.
If I were hiring a low time float plane pilot I would put the minnow pilot right on the top of the list to hire.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

I see there have been a lot of views on this thread since I answered those two questions.
I wonder if riverhouse has had many applications?
Hell if I was young again I would jump at a job like that.

Re: Minnow Pilot
No OC? Just jump in your own plane and go collect minnows for cash for this person? How does that work?P180 wrote:Me to Cat driver I,d jump at it too.At our age we still need some fun.Cat Driver wrote:I see there have been a lot of views on this thread since I answered those two questions.

Way better than going through all the misery of applying for, paying for, waiting for, having all the B.S. of an AMO to get sodomized by and all the other B.S. dealing with the theives in government. No OC? Just jump in your own plane and go collect minnows for cash for this person? How does that work?
So to answer this again.
Just great.How does that work?

Most minnow operators run under private oc. TC knows and turns a blind eye. Just be wary and know what you're getting into, some minnow jobs aren't as good as they look from the outside.CL-Skadoo! wrote:No OC? It is, I agree. Just saying that in some cases, if you're a new 200 hour pilot make sure you know your limits.

Re: Minnow Pilot
Minnow Pilot was my first float gig and by far the most fun I've ever had. You learn a lot about your limits and really learn how to use your hands and feet as well as the ecology and environment of the various ponds and lakes. At first you set out a couple traps to test the waters in a trial and error fashion but afterwards you start to see a trend and set traps accordingly. Keeping them alive was another story. Did I mention long days?

Re: Minnow Pilot
That sounds like a really cool job. I live in Northern Ontario and if I wasn't so busy I'd jump on this. Probably the most fun flying you can have.

Re: Minnow Pilot
I did this for my first flying gig as well. It was pretty awesome but also quite dangerous for a newbie. I did it in a J3 Cub and as a 200lb guy let me tell you it made you work to get that thing off the water. Most dangerous thing was almost all your landings are first thing in the morning in a very small lake and its almost always glassy water. I never had a gps or a radio so I think it was the best thing for me at that stage of flying!
Re: Minnow Pilot
Just wondering how you went about getting this job? I've been looking around for next year but can't seem to find many places. Thanks!bring me the horizon wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2017 2:03 pm Minnow Pilot was my first float gig and by far the most fun I've ever had.
