Anyone at regionals without a clear criminal record?

Post by 800man »

Hello all. Just wondering what the criteria for a "clear" criminal record is is the regionals.
I'm in a 704 right now that had no check, happy here but keeping my options open in case of merging or other aviation occurances! I do have a black mark from a decade ago. Nothing too serious, (compared to just an assault or anything I suppose) just an unfortunate alcohol related offense that I had to pay a fine for. Pardon is apparently being granted within the year.

Can anyone share if the criteria for Westjet, Jazz , Porter, GGN is a completely clear record no matter what or is it a case by case basis?
Feel free to PM
Thanks, 800.

Not sure about the pilots, but I believe that a criminal record is a must for senior management!

If it's alcohol related I'd personally wait until it's pardoned. But that's just me.

Suspect that the RAIC system would have picked it up, so whoever has a record is automatically disqualified from work.

You don't even need a criminal record, just some irrelevant police record, and TC automatically incinerates that particular person, no questions asked.

Yeah, never had a raic, but was told by an official at our airport that I should probably not be denied. Mostly a curiosities sake, probably won't leave my hometown anytime soon.

I have an assault charge and I have a RAIC flying in the 703 world. But I sure am curious if the airlines or even the 704/705 is closed to me.

I think the usual question asked is "have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence for which you have not received a pardon."

I know someone who failed the Jazz criminal background test due to an old drinking and driving incident. As long as it's on your record, I don't believe any majors will hire you... Get it pardoned!

Yup. So do I. DUI seems to be a disqualifying factor. No airline wants to touch someone that is that irresponsible. Sure, we all make mistakes, but some mistakes point more to a general character flaw, than a "one time thing". As a European, I've been drinking beer since I was 14 or so. I have never driven after having alcohol. Buses, Train, Taxi is worth every penny. To me, people that drink and drive don't diverse to have a license to operate any type of vehicle. I feel strongly about that, since my cousin was killed by an idiot drunk driver, when she was a teenager.

You can sometimes get a RAIC with a record. Whether they will hire you or not is tough to say...

If you're getting it pardoned that's best, sit tight until you do and do not lie...

and DO NOT go to the States until the pardon goes through.

Basically, when US CBP scan your passport they will get access on you from the Canadian system which will say you have a record, they will not recognise the pardon when you get it and you will forever have to get a waiver ($) to travel there with a record. That makes life difficult when your job requires unrestricted travel to the US.
